Anyone take a taxi from Seoul to the airport?

Will just any taxi you stop on the street take you there?

About how much is the fare?

My helper to the airport backed out due a death in the family. It will be somewhat awkward trying to handle my 2 bags and carryon by myself. Having to only use 1 taxi would help...

IIRC, I paid around 50,000 won to go from the middle of Seoul to Inchon. If you have a lot of stuff, you could call for a minivan taxi. I find that most drivers don't mind helping you with luggage.

There are a ton of buses that run to the airport. I believe they cost around 12,000 won and the drivers will also often help you load and unload. In fact, they'll likely insist.

I only have 2 bags and a carryon but it is a little difficult for me to handle alone. There is a airport limo bus stop not far from my apartment...

I just wonder if any taxi I stop will do the trip. I assume so - but thought I'd check to see if anyone has done it before.

My last three trips to the airport, I actually did all three that I mentioned. I took the bus, called for a minivan taxi, and picked some random taxi to take me there. I would assume then that most taxis would take you there. In each case, they helped me load and unload luggage. IMHO, as a westerner they will likely help you as well. Interestingly, the bus driver refused a tip (something about policy), the minivan driver somewhat expected a tip, and the taxi driver was shocked at getting a tip.

Airport limo bus - the bags go underneath. They load the bags onto the bus for you.

You get to the airport, they unload your bags and you put them on the cart (from the row of carts next to the bus unloading).

The only trouble is getting from your house to the limo-bus. Taxi is cheap for that.

Taxi out to the airport is just foolish (unless you like to throw money away).

You may want to try "International Taxi" (www.intltaxi.co.kr). They have an English customer service number that you call to make a reservation. They charge a flat rate to drive you from Seoul to the airport (between 55,000 and 75,000 for a medium taxi, depending on where in Seoul you are). It's not the cheapest way to get to the airport, but it's the easiest. They'll pick you up at your apartment, help you with your luggage, and drive in the most efficient manner possible (thanks to the flat rate) to get you to the airport. I've only used them once, but I had a really positive experience, and so has everyone else I know who has used them.

With two suitcases and a carryon, the medium taxi should be big enough.

I'm feeling flush with the pension money coming on top of severance and whatnot...

I'd like to go with ease, but I'll probably go with the cheaper option.

An airport limo bus runs by Gyeongbokung Station which is a short taxi ride from my place. I'll probably do that. The taxi will have to do a u-turn since I'm not crossing the street with my bags, but it won't be too complicated.

I'd rather take a taxi, and I'm not a penny pencher, but 40,000 more than the bus is too much.

It will depend on how I feel --- and how cold it is...

Take a cab to the City Air Terminals in Seoul. If you are flying KoreaAir or Asiana you can check all yoru bags there and take the Airport Bus to Incheon or Gimpo.

Or, if you don't check your bags, you can load them onto the bus. Taking a cab from Seoul to Incheon is silly when you have the city air terminals.

Wouldn't it be faster just to take a cab to the AREX line?

I guess it's annoying if you have a lot of stuff

the arex is a bit difficult if you have a lot of bags. even though most stations have elevators, you still have to carry your bags down a flight or two of stairs/escalators.

a cab is about 50K. every time i've taken one to the airport, i've just hopped in a random one and never had a problem. a regular cab should be fine. one bag in the trunk. another one and the carry on in the back seat. it'll be cheaper than getting a van.

if the bus isn't too far from you, you could take a quick taxi there and then take the bus, but with the cab ride to the stop it'll probably be about 20K. the airport buses are still kind of pricey.

If I have a lot of luggage or sports equipment and do want to take the airport bus (I live up a hill from the stop) a taxi van usually costs around 80-90K to the Sinchon area.

I used the train last time...it was very cheap, quite fast, and not crowded at all...I used to use the bus but find the metro system to be just as easy and most stations have elevators...

I took the subway without baggage once to meet someone. Seemed rather long.

The limo bus is just 5 bus stops from my officetel. I'll probably take a taxi to it. The 3 bags shouldn't be too much trouble for that.

If it's rather cold, I might take the taxi.

The airport limo is only 10,000 and the taxi will be 2,400-3,000.

I was waiting for the airport bus in Gangnam one day and probably appeared pretty flustered because I was running late. An old-ish taxi driver came over to me and told me he'd take me to the airport for 14,000. I was sure it was a scam but I was desperate and agreed. It took less than half an hour (he was driving very quickly) and sure enough, he charged me 14,000 won.

I guess you got a good deal. Someone wanted to charge me much more for going to Seoul from Yongsan. I wouldn't advise someone taking a taxi to Incheon Airport. It's rather far. It can possibly cost someone over 50,000 won. The bus is a great deal. I'd save the money and take the bus.
