Hello all

I've got a GEPIK job starting in April and I'm in the process of tracking down references. I have one academic and another from my last school with proof of employment and a letter of recommendation.

Here's the problem: both were emailed to my recruiter in pdf format (scanned in with ink signatures). I did ask for paper ones to be sent to me but the referees checked it out and said I'm not allowed to 'handle' them, and that they must go to employers directly. I guess that seems to be the culture here in the UK, but my recruiter is still asking me to send originals with my application... which I can't do Confused

Anyone had this problem, or found a way around it?
Is this just a UK thing... or just me?
And are *original* reference letters that important?

Thanks

It's not just a UK thing, I think it's an "everywhere except Korea" thing. In the US, it can actually be illegal to provide someone a letter of recommendation for a job/school that is not sealed in an envelope.

Give your references an addressed, postage-paid envelope and have them mail the letters to the employer.

under no circumstances is it illegal to hand someone a letter of rec. in the USA. I don't know where you got that info... However, many places require/request a sealed letter of recommendation.

just print out the pdfs and mail them yourself. put tape over the envelope and sign it or something. If they are legit and you ever get questioned just tell them to call or contact the references. The recruiters and bureaucrats are too busy to play detective with everyone's paperwork, that is why they want everything done in a nice, neat, orderly fashion.

What exactly is the problem? Either have your referees mail you the letters in sealed envelopes or have them mail the sealed letters directly to the recruiter.
