recently (maybe 2-3 months ago), there are many 2nd tier monitor brand selling 2560x1440 S-IPS 27 inches in the market

some of the brand are crossover, achieva, yamasaki and etc

the price is very cheap, around 250,000 - 300,000 won
compared to samsung or LG, 2560x1440 will cost almost 1,000,000 won

so my question is, are those 2nd tier brand monitors worth it? what about the quality?

some of the ones you've linked use reputable lg panels.

just watch out, some of the super cheap monitors use 8bit panels instead of 10bit panels.

you can get a decent one for around 275k with a 10 bit panel. not bad. i've read the reviews on some of the shimian ones and they seem pleased with the monitors. i was actually looking to get one myself sometime very soon.

I like what i see from the Shiman panels. There is a sample you can view at one of the larger vendors in the Sun-in building at Yongsan.

the shimian 1 looks not bad
but the yamasaki 1 looks more sleek

anyway, what concern me is the warranty
as dead pixel are very hard to avoid even in samsung/lg qs

do those 2nd tier company provide zero dead pixel policy?
as i cant read/speak korean, the exchange process will be tough task

Yeah the thread on overlock got me thinking about these monitors also. I have been meaning to get my wife to read some reviews for me and see what people are saying about the a/s with them. As cheap as they are they would make a nice surround setup!

I got the Shimian a few months back and have absolutely no problems with it. Also no dead pixels. Only a handful of companies make the actual panels (Samsung, LG, etc) for the monitors but in Korea Samsung and LG charge a pretty hefty premium as they are name brand.

As far as i know it is 1 year standard warranty.

i bought a samsung monitor and got a dead pixel, only 1
i call to them and request for an exchange, as they are providing zero dead pixel policy
but after many phone calls, they say samsung Korea dont provide this policy anymore, others country maybe still providing but that is not their problem.
So 1 pixel is not applicable for exchange
atleast 2 dead pixels in 15mm distance is the minimum requirement for exchange
so they dont allow my exchange request
and finally i request for a refund and i got back the money next day
but i took me alot of hassle as i dont speak korean

thats why i am phobia with dead pixels now, if i bought the shimian and it has a dead pixels, then i dont know what to do

Why not buy it at the store and insist on taking it out of the box and testing it there?

good question
1) i am in busan, there is not much IT mall like yongsan. The 1 is gaya is like a dead town, while another 1 i never went before yet. But i doubt they have stock for the monitor
2) online is cheaper and more convenient
3) i cant speak korean

I got my wife to look at Achieva's website about the A/S.

The monitors have a 1 year warranty from date of purchase, if you don't have proof of purchase then 15 months from manufacture date. You must ship it to them. Their dead pixel policy is good for the first month you have it and they only exchange your product for a new one. qh 270-ipst, qh270-ipsm(bypass) - if they have more than 4 dead pixels and qh 270-ipsb(s),qh 270-ipsb(bypass) - if they have more than 10 dead pixels.

That sure is a whole lotta dead pixels!!!!

Apple's 27 inch monitors are gorgeous. But I'm not spending $1100 on one. Glad they finally have cheap alternatives.
