yes I understand your pain, so I usually ask my friends coming back from home or my mum to send me Coroba from home.

but there are a couple of Dark rums which can be had here.

havana dark Rhum, is one , go to Namdaemun under ground market, go to the alcohol area and ask around.
also bottle stores usually stock that brand.

I contacted Mount Gay about the prospect of beginning sales in Korea a few years ago. In their reply they apologized and stated they had no plans of expanding into the market.

if you go to a liquor store you should be able to find captain morgan and as someone said, in namdaemun they have pretty much any kind of alcohol you could want.

I have seen nothing around at all in the Dark variety. Couple of yuck sweetened gold styles like tondena but nothing dark. guess a trip into downtown is in order.

I'm a big fan of aged rums, but unfortunately I'm living in the wrong country. This may be a bit far afield for you, but the Nepalese restaurant in Yeokjeon market near Suwon Station sells Old Monk rum, a wonderful 7 year aged Indian rum. Last time I bought a bottle, it was W40k. Sometimes they also carry Sikkim, another aged rum, for W20k, but last time I was there, they were out. Both are very sippable.

PM me if you want more specific directions.

World Food Mart in Itaewon carries Old Captain, a 5 year rum. At 12k a bottle, it's a good deal and makes a nice rum and Coke, but not really a sipping rum.

Those are the only places I've seen decent rum for sale in Korea.

Don't they have dark rum at Costco? I know they have Bacardi--both Superior and 151.

Incidentally, the very BEST cocktails I've had in Seoul were at the W Hotel. They make an AMAZING mojito...almost on par with South Florida. Certainly it's not cheap...but I'll gladly pay $15 or $20 for a decent drink on Saturday night...

OK, here are the best directions I can give to the shop that carries Old Captain.

Go out exit 3 of Itaewon Station, then do a 180 and go around the corner past Quizno's and Cold Stone. Turn left into the alley. It's on the right hand side past the Persian Land and Delhi Darbar Restaurants, but before the Talk Show hof. It's actually called Foreign Food Mart (NOT the same Foreign Food Mart near the beginning of Hooker Hill, this one's much smaller). They have freezers out front and they advertise calling cards, Nigerian food, Phillipine food, etc. They usually carry a bottle or two of Old Captain, but sometimes they run out. Hope that helps.

I was at Namdaemun this weekend and I can confirm that they do have Havana Club Dark at 48K a bottle. I didn't get any as I have some Appleton's at home and just didn't want to spend the money.

I also found the Old Captain at one of the booths for 10k and some RonRico Amber 1L for 18K. I got a bottle of each as I haven't had either before.

The bar at W hotel has some excellent dark rums for sale. Single shots are expensive. Can't remember the brands but one was a 23year and the other a 17year.

If you have base connections, an ex-army friend got me a bottle of Captain Morgan Private Stock...very sippable rum with a heavy vanilla flavour...not what I like but my sipping friends really enjoyed it.
