I've accepted a public school job, and now must start a TEFL course. I signed a 'promisory' note saying I would have it completed within three months. Now to select a course. I've been thinking of going with TEFL Academy, as it's one of the larger companies. I've also read about ITTT.

Can anyone suggest a respected, but reasonably priced online course? What do you think of the two mentioned above?

Thanks in advance,
Smith

I'm doing the ITTT online course right now with tutor support. As far as I know it's acceptable for the public schools (120 hours) and it's definitely educational albeit time consuming.

I did one with INTESOL. It was very easy and my tutor was great about getting it back to me quickly. I am going on to do the diploma in TESOL with them as I thought they were very good Very Happy

I used TEFLonline.com. Its accredited by ACCET/Bridge. I know KoreaConnections uses it as their go to TEFL certification company. Its about $400 and good support. Feedback is guaranteed within 24 hours if I recall (and for me it was).

I used this as well. The tutor assigned to grade your homework assignments always responds quickly and it was very easy to follow.

I used ITTT. They handled it as well as you reasonably can, my tutor was really good with feedback and quick responses.

The lessons were usually pretty interesting considering the subject, except for the incredibly tedious grammar parts. Trust me, you have forgotten far more about the technical details of the English language than you think.

Absolutely use a tutor. The non-tutored options are FAR more difficult because you won't know what they're expecting on the ending test and won't have anyone to ask.

I did mine through ONTESOL.

http://www.ontesol.com/

100 hours, well priced, and they're very reliable about responding to emails rapidly.

Bear in mind with these online courses it can be something of an honesty system. i.e you get back what you put in. If you want to copy someone eles's assignments, or look at the answers during an online test there's essentially nothing stopping you. If you want to actually learn something, and improve your skills as a teacher however they can be very valuable. I probably spent 300 hours completing mine. Did a lot of extra "unnecessary" work, but if you're paying for a tutor to coach you, why not use them, right??

You also have the option of add ons like Teaching English to Young Learners certs, or doing the in class supervised teaching for example.

Would recommend it.
