SNL skits and Dave Chappelle have been doing 'funny race skits' for years. YEARS.

It's not your fault. You've been bombarded with this stuff since you were old enough to walk. Then, when comedians make light of the issue - you balk and run like the wind.

According to this blogger, Dave Chappelle quit his show and went to Africa over the way one of the show's white cast member laughed at his black face pixie comedy sketch a few years ago joke. It's the way he laughed, not the fact that he laughed.

I liked this comment in particular:

If you watch Dave talk about it on Inside the Actors Studio you might understand better. After that if you still cant understand the felling behind Daves decision then you never will understand and need to shut up and leave it alone.

Name of the song and, I'd say, a fairly loose and hilarious translation provided by "Google translate this page". My ladyfriend said it was generally correct, though it's obviously in grammatical shambles, to say the absolute least. Apparently, it's a "Korean country song," according to her. She speaks excellent English, but I would never deny that she could be wrong about certain parts. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did.

신 토 불이

It made zero sense to me, also. The title was translated to me as: 신 토 불이 ("Korean food is best for Korean people"). I'm trying my best, since no one has translated anything so far, but my Korean is horrible. The theme is supposedly about "Food Miles."

Personally, two Korean girls singing about how certain ethnic groups should eat their own countries' food (assuming my translator was correct), while sporting faux-Lakers jerseys and black face, is certainly out of line. But, then again, what do I know.

Yeah I do remember that but as you said it was because they were violating their visas by doing another job, not because of the actual content of the play

You have just won the naive post of the week award. Congratulations!

Unacceptable where?

Oh you mean in a different country. Ah.

FYI genocide, child suicide bombers and carrying an AK47 on the street are entirely acceptable in several countries and I don't see you making nearly as much fuss.

Jamaica. No, here, the country in which we both currently reside. Once again, care to give a reason why you think it's not unacceptable? Your second point is just an odd comparison (if that's even what it is) which has nothing to do with anything that has been mentioned in this thread. I have opinions on those issues but I don't live in the 3rd world countries that do the things you mentioned.

because westerners are trying to turn korea into a copy of themselves.
Korea is thankfully free of much of the PC harrasment that makes life in the west so ridiculous.

Black folks make fun of white folks btw. on national TV.
People are funny. Our racial differences are also funny. There is an innocence to this humor, it is not based on hatred.

Isn't it okay when white comedians do it as it's 'post modern ironic?' Ie, they know it's wrong and the joke is they are making fun of themselves or the tv network or something because we know it's wrong...?

No...each and every one of them weren't deported. Several of them still work here.

Oh and the "Busan incident" (aka "Babopalooza") took place in 2006. Here is one of the English teachers who was involved and questioned by the police...RENEWING HIS VISA IN 2007.

Thankfully another poster on Dave's "gets it."

Yeah it's so refreshing to be free from all the 'pc crap' in Korea.

Especially when little kids have no reserve about talking banmal to me in class and even using Korean swear words openly when they know I understand Korean...

.... or when I got to a restaurant and order in Korean and get waved away with 'no sandwichee, no hamburgah!' and then all the patrons in the restaurant crack up laughing at me. True stories.

On the flip side, I can get away with a lot of stuff too I guess as I will always be seen as ignorant of Korean ways whether I am or not and thus not really cognizant of my mistakes. Oh wait, thjat means I'm treated as a simpleton. Hmmm, give me the PC back please....

Some people are getting their panties in a twist over this. I don't find it shocking or offensive, just painfully embarrassing. Like your drunk uncle making fart noises with his armpit, it makes you feel so bad for them.

And it would make me a lot more worldy-wise if I just blindly believed everything I read on Dave's would it? Maybe, for example, I should just blindly believe in the 'fact' as you reported it, that 'each and every one' of the people who performed that play in Busan got deported'? Would that make me less naive?

You mean give you the PC and your part in the majority race back.

Political correctness is not the solution to mouthy children in the classroom, people making jokes at another's expense and discrimination based on race.

poor taste but not racist in my opinion.

I lived in Japan before and the whole blackface routine was a pretty common theme on Japanese TV....way more often than here.
