Is it likely my application will be declined? |
Unfortunately, yes. They always ask for the marriage certificate from both countries.
In my mind your options are...
1. Wait for the document and apply for the F-6 when you get it. This may mean asking your new employer to delay the start date, or simply finding another job that starts later.
2. Ask your employer to sponsor an E-2 visa for you. Come to Korea with an E-2, and later switch to F-6 when you get all of the correct documents. Of course this depends on how quickly/easily you can obtain the E-2 documents (apostilled degree, CRC, etc).
3. See if there is any way your can get the embassy/registry office to speed things up for you. I don't know how this could be done or if it is even possible, but maybe someone knows.
Good luck |

I got my F6 in New Zealand before I came back, and I only had to show the marriage certificate from Korea (the English version I got signed at the NZ embassy back when we got married). A good thing too, as we don't have an NZ marriage certificate - NZ recognizes all overseas marriages but does not provide a marriage ertificate unless we were married in NZ - which is probably why we only needed the one, I guess. |

I think I might have the opposite problem eventually. I'll have a UK Marriage Certificate but not a Korean one. Does anyone know how to get a Korean Marriage Cert when already married in the UK? |

for anyone who looks at this thread in the future for reference:
The british embassy issue a letter regarding the marriage that they charge 82000 won for. It says basically that the uk almost certainly accepts this marriage as legal. Korean immigration do accept this letter |
would this apply to me - i've only got the korean marriage certificate (wasn't married in the uk)?
i've had others tell me that immigration do not accept any letters from the embassy |

Thanks for the update
Just curious. How did you find the process of applying in London? Did you and the missus need to interview together in person? Was the processing time long? Were there any unusual requests? |

lordflyte - i'm in the same position. have a korean marriage cert and my translated version is on its way to the registry office in the UK (god knows when it'll get there).
did you have any luck with the letter from the embassy? i don't wanna spend 82,000 for a piece of paper that immigration won't accept.
anyone else been through this process? |

I'm assuming wellington right?
well done...we (well,I) tried that route as Option B in 2008. We had all the paperwork u could need, wellington korean embassy told me when I tried to get the F2...that I needed to show a return airplane ticket.
(that's right...a return ticket..to korea..and back to NZ again...for a honeymooning teacher relaxing in NZ and seeking work in Korea, where the future employer will buy any plane tickets).
so that was Option B out of the question.
must have changed the rules since then...
so what was Option A? |

but yeah ..OP seems unlucky that UK wants a UK and Korean one.
as said above, NZ accepts just one mariagge cert..u choose which country u want to be officially married in (in my case Korea).
BTW> 2 seems troublesome, what if there is conflicting info on each?
anyway...back to Option A.
I tried to get F2 in Korea of course after our marriage signing in embassy,
but the local korean office told us to wait until wednesday for the official family paper to be printed...of course , we were both leaving Korea on our honeymoon on the monday! so that was Option A not happening.
anyway..sorry for hijacking the thread a bit...good luck to OP... |
