Two weeks before I leave Korea, and I get a virus on my computer, or malware - not really sure what the difference is.

I've looked online to try and find ways to fix the problem, but spent four hours last night with no resolution.

Has anyone had this problem, and how did you fix it?

It worked for me. Did you do what it suggested?

I would download Malwarebytes and Kaspersky as a trial onto a USB key from another computer. Install and run them. If you download Kaspersky from the linked section below, there is no registration needed for your trial.

The malware may block access to antivirus sites, hence using USB to install. Or try downloading from www.downloads.com

I sent it home to have a friend fix it. Still waiting the results, but don't expect much. I'm just thankful I had everything backed up on an external hard drive.
