Groceries in Korea are 25% lower in cost than they are in Canada?
What's next? Electronics are cheaper in Korea than they are in USA?
This site is bull. Moving on. |

Fruits/vegetables are all cheaper in Canada. Meats are cheaper as well. Stuff like milk/cheese (all imported here) - there's no point in even mentioning these.
I suppose the problem with Korea is that it imports half the products. This is also the case in Canada (as far as fruits go), but the price is not as inflated as it is here. Kimchi is cheaper here - but Chinese variants are cheap in Canada as well (though not of great quality). I wouldn't be surprised if rice was cheaper in Canada as well (the non-sticky variant, since sticky rice is not all that common in Canada).
Of course, this depends on when one goes shopping. I'm comparing emart prices to those at no-frills. |

Stuff in the UK is pretty cheap IMO (just walk into a Tesco and compare it to Emart). Korea is the ripoff if you ask me.
I'll agree that electronics and stuff like that are absolute daylight robbery in the UK, though. |

On food - point taken
I went into E-mart the other day - a box of Je-ju oranges (big ones), maybe 8 in a box MAX = just under w50,000!
But they were in a nice box |

the whole world is off it's rocker.
these last couple decades we have seen sky rocketing prices all over the world and it's only going up up up.
sure we are a new world in the sense of coming out of dark ages, world wars,
but the rapid progress is retarded. just one generation ago things were cheap.
houses, groceries, gas, clothes, but now it's like you gotta pay for everything through the nose. it's crazy and it's seems like it's never gonna end.
feel sorry my future grandkids it's gonna get real ugly.
Greed is good huh.
funny how gordon is now saying greed is not good. but who is listening. |

Some stuff is cheaper, but $2.33 for a kg of oranges in Korea?
Not likely..
Even at the best of times actual oranges are never that cheap. Those little mandarin oranges, yes, at their peak will get down around that price.
But some of the things they list are just so ridiculously vague
"1 Summer Dress in a Chain Store (Zara, H&M, ...) " seriously? The price on that could vary by $200 in the same mall.
This is just an utterly pointless site built on an utterly pointless model. This whole "cost of living" craze that's been going on for awhile, so long as it's being created by people who really don't have a clue, is meaningless and the discussion of them should probably be banned. About the only thing that should be stickied is something pointing that out. |

The prices in Korea on clothes, electronics and food--pretty much everything we buy on a monthly basis is downright LAUGHABLE. LITERALLY. My wife recently took a trip back to the States with me and her mouth was gaping open over the cheap prices of food and clothes. She was astonished.
I've lost count how many times I've laughed myself out of a store after seeing the prices, thinking what idiot would buy this at that price? Its sad when these prices are attached to food because we need it to survive and poor Koreans making less than we do have to pay the prices or starve to death. |

| If you look, the number of people that have added to the Korean data is slightly more than 100. The U.S. data is around 27000 people. I'm sure that helps contribute to the problem. |

Seems quite off.
Canada vs Korea seems quite skewed. |

A few of the Korean prices are right, but a lot of them are fantasy. But then they're not much more fantasy than the "official" lists we've seen.
The apple, chicken, and monthly pass are off, there really isn't such a thing here, only a "trip pack" you can buy of like 40-44 trips
The problem is most of those are extremely subjective |

Also, this is all very localized. I work in Gangnam and eat 2-3 meals there each day. And there's no way I could get a decent meal at those prices. But is that reflexive of Korea? Well, to me it is, but I could see how others might disagree.
I was checking gas prices this week and Korea topped 2000won a litre. In Calgary, it was $1.09. In Toronto, $1.30. In Victoria, $1.40 - quite the spread in one country.
I think a city to city comparison is gong to be more accurate. |

Interesting site!
No doubt Korea is more expensive these days than before and becoming more so-- (fruits are a good example) which is a concern!
Inflation is one of the biggest challenges facing the government!
I think these prices are for the most part right!
Some of the prices back home are like wow!
Europe is crazy expensive! Korea is catching up but for now remains way cheaper---in many ways! |
