I've recently accepted a job at a public school in Uijeongbu. I've never been in Northern Seoul so I'm excited about trying out a new location!

Does anyone know anything about the shopping, restaurants and location?

Uijeongbu is a city of about 450,000 people, so there's plenty around. It's just outside of Dobong-gu and Nowon-gu in Seoul, and has direct access to Line 1 (Mangwolsa, Hoeryong, Uijeongbu, Ganeung, and Nogyang) and less convenient access to Line 7 (Jangam) of the Seoul Metro. Access to Seoul via bus is quite good too. Uijeongbu is on the verge of opening up service on a new monorail with stops around the city, but I honestly can't see how it will improve life for anyone who doesn't live right next to a stop. The city is pretty centralized and loaded with buses, making it pretty easy to get around.

There are two Lottemarts and a Homeplus in the city for general shopping, not to mention numerous smaller grocers like Lotte Super. The downtown has a pedestrian area that was finished a few years ago. The area is much improved and seems to be getting better. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops around there, not to mention a more traditional market, shops like Uniqlo, and an underground "mall". Shinsegae Department Store is about to open a new location right at Uijeongbu Station as well.. Homeplus in Geumo-dong also has a number of restaurants nearby, and there are plenty of other parts of town that have areas that are fine for eating out if you enjoy typical Korean fare.

If you're comfortable sharing where you'll be teaching and living, I'm sure people will be happy to share more specific information. There is a Facebook group called Uijeongbu Crew filled with people who seem to be ready to help newcomers. Good luck!

I have no idea where I'll be living. I'm still trying to get that information.

I'm going to be teaching at Geumo Public School. I'm sending in all the documents tomorrow.

I may be wrong, but I believe you'll be housed pretty close to Homeplus then. Not a bad place to be.
