Wow forgot about that....well OP...here is hoping you do not get a new visa. Sorry but the crap you pulled is just toxic for other foreign teachers.

Oh that was not being high and mighty, not at all.

It was me expressing a wish that you do not get issued another work visa in Korea so that you do not create more crap for other foreign teachers when you pull yet another runner without paying back airfaire or your cell phone bill thereby screwing the foreign teacher that comes after you to the school or the next foreign teacher who goes to get an Iphone and gets slapped with more restrictions.

I highly doubt you have the maturity and introspection capacities to see that the world does not revolve around your little needs and that your actions can indeed affect others.

So, once again, here is hoping you DO NOT get a new visa.

Cheers and stay selfish.

A lot of recruiters won't care. Just be sure to explain your side of the story. Some of them will care more than others. If you left one job, then there's a higher chance you'll leave the next one - or so many of them think. But at the end of the day, they just want to be paid for sending a teacher to a school. As long as they get paid, they'd place just about anyone who has his documents ready. Just apply to as many recruiters as possible.

It's really weird how I both agree and disagree with you about this statement. As a whole, I found that people working in Korea were decent people who were just trying to make a living while escaping not so optimistic economies elsewhere in the world. In that, I totally agree with the "don't screw your fellow colleagues" philosophy. However, sadly, experience has also taught me that some schools are just creepy, down low, shady, and deserve to be f*^%ed over as much as one can in order for one to make a point that such practices are neither cool nor acceptable...In that regard, sorry. If a school is outright abusing a teacher, it deserves to be stuck with the return airfare it paid to get him/her there...at the very least.

The thing is the OP was not being abused by his school. Of his own admission, there was nothing wrong with his school. He just had a supposed employement opportunity in the States and instead of quitting he ran out on his school because he did not wish to pay back the airfare. He also skipped out on his phone bill and tried to figure out a way to keep the phone anyway.

As such, he screwed the teacher that came after him at his former school because that employer was burnt for no reason. He left co-workers holding his bag of crap as he ran, and he likely affected the next foreign teacher who went to get an Iphone with the particular company he dealt with. So yeah, I hope he does not get issued a new visa...sorry.

My visa was canceled, so I might return to Korea for 6 months if nothing better turns up state side within the next month.

Feel kind of dirty for bailing on my school as they were nice and by the book from what I could tell. But at the time circumstances were what they were and paying back airfare was not an option.
