I just started working at a new school (hagwon, not ps). I got my visa and I'm in country. I'm in the process of applying for my ARC.

I'm not sure if my boss is misinformed or if these are recent changes. They sound kind of strange to me.

1) I only need to do a drug test. Not a full check-up. I have to schedule my appointment for this weekend so this is kind of important. He said to just do the drug test because it's cheaper, but I'm 99% sure you also have to check for HIV among other things. In my first year I remember getting some xrays in addition to a bunch of other stuff.

2) After getting my ARC, I have to do a criminal background check in Korea. This also sounds really weird. I got my RCMP check done while in Canada and if I don't see why it would be required after I get my ARC as I thought that kind of signifies the end of the process.

Anyone have any info? I'm going to call immi in the morning, but my schedule is crazy (I study in the mornings/work afternoons) so I'm tight on time. I would love you even more if you had links on the immi website I could show him.

edit: I found this, http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt?categoryId=2&parentId=390&catSeq=&showMenuId=376

It looks like it's just the HIV/TB/drug test. Is that really it?

I couldn't find anything re: Korean criminal check. I've lived here for the past 2 years, but I have a recent Canadian one...

I think a full health check is needed. Some people have found cheap alternatives. Look on the board. Still in the end it is the drug testing and HIV they are looking for. I think many of the bigger hospitals should be able to test on Saturday but maybe restricted times.

The extra Criminal Record Check I am guessing is for MOE - Ministry of Education. If you have already submitted one to Immigration then I think you only have to submit a copy of that CRC. Go to immigration and get a copy 300won I think and MOE should take it. MOE also may ask for a Korea one. Which is easily obtainable at the local police station. Other threads around about it.
