I've read through a lot of old posts on here and reviews on other sites so I know the names of a lot of recruiters people recommend (and have checked out the websites of many of them). But as I'm looking through all these sites, I realized that I'm not exactly sure what I should be looking for. What qualities should a good recruiting company have? Are there any redflags I should be looking out for too?

A pulse.
An understanding of English.
Some ethics somewhere above Genghis.
Knowledge and skills to use email.
Understand how to pick up the phone.
A sense of time. You could almost swear some recruiters live in another universe where time goes both quick and slow.
At the very least a SOUL.

My experience with recruiters has been that they're either scamming you, or they're not. I'd just email every recruiter, don't worry about checking them out until after they start sending decent job offers. After that turn up some information about them and use your common sense. If they're pushy about getting you on a plane, if they won't give you jobs you want and insist it's just 'the way the market is' then they're no good. What you want is as many recruiters showing your CV to as many people and taking your pick from the offers that come your way.

Redflags are:

*Never having time for anything, to the point where they'll shove you on a plane sans visa before they've answered any of your questions
*Never giving you straight answers to anything
*Giving you details about a job that sound awesome- there's no mention of this in the contract but don't worry, because they know for a fact that the boss will honor these things.
*"You're too old/ the wrong race/ not North American etc therefore no one will want to hire you. Ever. Luckily for you, I have this crappy job in the middle of nowhere that pays well below average..."
*You ask for any reasonably sized city in Korea and are fairly flexible about everything. They offer you multiple jobs in a tiny city North of Seoul that just happens to be where their recruitment agency is located. "This is all there is available..."
*"You want to be in Seoul? Actually, I have a great job in an area of Seoul called Daegu..."

I've been with a lot of recruiters... I'd say...

Make sure they answer quickly and don't leave you stranded for a week with no response. Sometimes you'll get someone who will say "oh yeah~ I have tons of positions~" and then you never hear from them, despite emailing them to ask about said positions

Get worried if they start pushing just one hagwon on you and act like you're acting unreasonable for not wanting this "super, great, best hagwon ever" offer

If they get pushy with you at all or act like you need to lower your expectations/basic needs, get out.
