|
|
Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to get a Visa bank card in Korea? Like a bank card that withdraws from your checking account, but that you can also use like a credit card for online purchases and traveling international.
The last time I worked in Korea I had a KB account, but I was never able to get a Visa bank card.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's much easier now than it was 5 years ago.
I think most (all?) of the major banks offer them to foreigners now. The problem is that some individual bank branches/employees still don't know that it's possible, don't know how to do it, or don't want to deal with the extra paperwork. But it shouldn't be too hard to get one if you are persistent. If one bank says no go to another bank. |

I want to ask: will you use this card overseas?
like r122925 said, major banks offer them however getting a teller (even the bank manager) to help you out can be a bigger headache than its worth. KEB is the one place where you shouldn't have problems.
Edit: the KEB card is only available for ATM use, not for direct purchases outside of Korea |

yes, i would use this card overseas. I'm from the States, and for someone who doesn't carry credit cards, a visa debit card is invaluable. I'd like to hook up with a bank in Korea that offers that same service. |

Ultimately, your statement is correct, but my KEB card has yet to work in a country outside Korea. Failed twice in Japan (separate trips, trying multiple ATMs....and I'd complained to KEB after the first trip) and once in the US. |
