I'm at a public school right now and have been here since late August.

I worked for a shady hagwon from March-mid August.

My current school hasn't done my taxes yet and have asked for my previous employer information. They know I was in the country (I'm pretty sure they do). I know my previous employer didn't pay any tax on my behalf yet he took it from my salary. If I give my school all the details, dates, etc am I going to be robbed by the Tax Man? I'm afraid of losing more than I'm already slated to get taken from me. I also don't want to have any ties with my previous boss or have any sort of contact with him in the future.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you have pay slips from your old boss which shows that tax had been 'deducted?'

I don't. That's why I only worked there a short time, things were sooo shady.

Where are you from?

Americans shouldn't be paying tax for their first 2 yeard in K, assuming you filled in the right paperwork?

Anyhow - if I weer you in this situation, I wouldn't lie about your old place of work, tell the truth - what's the worst that will happen?

you'll have to pay 5-6 months of tax.....which isn't too high anyway or lie, run the risk of the school finding out and then the repercussions will be on YOU - not your old boss....

I'm an American and am past my non-taxable income stage.

Hmm, ok. I figured truth was the best, but I was robbed of enough money last year that paying more is just salt in the wound. I really really REALLY don't have to have any sort of involvement with this guy again or have my school open this can of worms and have everything out in the open because secrets about foreigners in this country do not exist.

Btw, my old school was Daniel English or Daniel Education. I know posts have been made on here about it, but I hope no one ever works for that slime ball.

This is only true if you work at a public school or a government funded uni. Anywhere else, you are paying Korean taxes. And you have to file in the U.S..

Just tell the pension office that the old boss didn't pay. Trust me, they'll make sure that he does.
