I've been in Korea for just over 2 weeks now and I still haven't had my medical. The school has a new head teacher this year who is totally stressed out about everything and keeps putting off taking me to the hospital for my medical.

Originally I was going on Tuesday and then it was supposed to be tomorrow but now the Head Teacher says it has to be postponed again until next week (when all the classes start and I have no free time during the day except my lunch break).

I mentioned that I need to do the medical to get an ARC card, bank account, phone etc. The response was that we should go on the weekend to get the medical done. Is it reasonable to expect that I go on the weekend? And do they even do the testing on the weekend?

You could go on your own, at a time of your own convenience -- the school has no duty to take you in for the medical exam. You ARE required to get it done, and within the 90 days so you can get your ARC, but that is YOUR duty, not your school's.

I am saying this to put things into perspective for you -- your head teacher taking you in for your medical exam is a FAVOR being done for you. As a favor, he or she has a right to perform this favor on his or her own terms...but if those make it too inconvenient for you, you are certainly free to turn down the favor and simply take care of it yourself.

If you want the help, then go on the weekend when your head teacher can give the help. If you can deal with it without help, go when you feel like it, and tell your head teacher not to worry about juggling schedules and other duties to babysit you.

Get it done yourself. It will be better for you. Will help build competence and a better view of you.

Looking at your previous posts I suspect you are in Suwon. Well I tried to find a list of hospital maybe somebody here can point where to go. Go a do it yourself. It was likely suspected that you will pay for it. Prices vary.

Still make it easier on yourself. Ask for the the coteacher to write down in Korean instructions you will need like

1. Directions for any taxi driver.
2. A basic letter saying "this foreigner needs a medical check up for immigration purposes"
3. Possible details that might be problematic like drugs your are on. Health issues. Ya might not want to have coteacher help with this. Loose lips and that.

Consider even getting your teacher phone number so if need be they can be called. Yet, you might not have a phone.

Once you have your medical check done you might even consider getting your ARC done yourself. For details on procedure check out this link

Good Luck.
