Hi,

HEPA is the type of filter to get. That's the traditional filter, basically, and will trap small enough particles to make a difference.

Yeah, I'd avoid anything with an ionic component. I had one (not as fancy as that Hamilton Beach), and wasn't too impressed.

Yes, I do feel the air is cleaner with the Hanil. The positives and negatives... it is plenty for an apartment your size. It works well, and they do seem to last. I had another brand with more features that died after 3 years. My Hanil is 5 years old and still going. It does have an electro-static zapper inside.... different than a ionic... that I think just makes the filter grab particles better by keeping it slightly positive or negative or something.

It does make a bit more noise on lowest setting now, though. I tend to run it on medium. The negatives are that it's not whisper-quiet at low setting.

I have an air purifier with a HEPA filter that I might be willing to let go. I have used it for about two years now and it is still going strong. I have one filter in there now that I just put in this last weekend and another one that hasn't been used. On high, it is not silent. It definitely makes a difference, especially during the yellow dust season.

This is the purifier:

PM me and make me an offer if you are interested. It will clean a studio apartment but I moved into a larger place and it is not strong enough. So, I am debating on looking for a new one and maybe selling this one.

Thanks for answering all my questions. I had a Korean co-worker help me order it last night; was only 70K shipped. Do you normally leave your window(s) closed and leave it running constantly or leave the windows open during the day and let it run at night?

Hope you like it...

What I do is open the windows for some air at least a few times a day, then run the air cleaner for a few hours. Sometimes I just leave it on on bad dust days. Keep the windows closed.

Keep an eye on the pre-filter. It gets filled with crud after some time. I just pull it (very easy), spray it down with the shower hose and let it dry in there during the day. Nothing wrong with running the air cleaner with no pre-filter if it's just a day or something.

The refills from Oclaire come with some thin fiber/paper sheets that act as another pre-filter, and really extend the life of the refills. I get a year out of a filter if I use those sheets. Those must be replaced as they get full. Check every 2 or 3 weeks. Also, it will start to run louder when filters need cleaning or changing. The only thing I don't like about the O'claire filters is that they don't seem to have the same carbon internals to reduce smells in the house. The stock filter is better at that, but it's not a dealbreaker for me. Stock filters are nutty expensive... like 60,000 each. Not much less than a new cleaner!

Make sure the air cleaner you got has a NEW filter in it!!!! It should!
