Thanks for the well wishes, tips and insights.
I will check out meetup.com a bit more. I have started volunteering a few months back and really enjoyed it. But I would like to check out more stuff.
Yeah being in a small town is difficult which is why I head to Seoul most weekends to see my friends and slowly pursuing personal interests.
I am not opposed to dating Koreans and have been on dates with a couple but no spark or chemistry ...not that I am ruling them out but I am generally more attracted to western men.
I'll just have fun, meet new people and see what happens:)
Have a good weekend everyone:) |

This sounds like a bitter post, that is based on extreme generalizations that apply to only a small minority of Western males and ignores the fact that Western females are treated with more respect in our societies than they are in other countries and have more rights.
|
perhaps the only bitterness is that which resides deep inside the male psyche tormenting itself for not having lived up to expectations?
really Adventurer, from you I did expect better. guess not.

I quite agree. but you know the saying - can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear... |
Lady, you, essentially, made a small minority of Westerners seem like the majority of the Western males here. That's why you didn't get a positive response. I understand some females even in the US are upset with some North American males, but you have good and bad everywhere. The non-Westerners you mentioned are the cream of the crop from their own countries and in different professions. Many of us are the cream of the crop from our countries and very educated, but some of us are without class, but you're talking about maybe a quarter of instructors at most and since Western females arrive here in fewer numbers, the major issue is most of those males date the local women because they're what's available, and they're exotic for the locals just as the Western women would be exotic, but they choose not to date Korean males in many cases. It's their choice. I'll respect it.
I respect that you have a preference for non-Western males. I just thought that your response to the OP when she was looking for Western males was to say there are few good ones isn't what she believes and people will find that insulting just as many of the women get tired of the guys who exaggerate how many women are overweight and what not. Anyway, in my opinion someone who is somewhat overweight can be very attractive. Thin doesn't mean beautiful.
Cheers.. |

Pardon me, but what's wrong with the liberal arts? I studied political science for my undergraduate studies; I took plenty of business courses and what not. I don't see anything wrong with liberal arts, though I agree with much of what you posted here. Are you trying to say that people who studied engineering and the science fields will tend to party less and be more serious?
|
Nothin' at all wrong with liberal arts majors. I happen to be one. There's just not a lot of variety here with the men- or the Western women, to be fair. Lots of poli-sci majors (me) and failed artists (also me.) It makes for a great arts community (I'm currently in a choir, I do stand up, I'm producing a show, I'm in a classical play...) but it doesn't make for great dating.
Variety... something about spices. I dunno. It's Friday night and it's been a long week. |

You're smart, talented. That should count for something. I don't regret having studied political science, but, in a way, I wish I also had a degree in economics. I enjoy teaching, but I also enjoy economics and learning about it. It takes talent to produce a show. I hope you go on a great date soon, then, and you'll be the one to steal his show. |

Lady is just one of the socks from an oft banned user here. Trying to debate with her, him or it is pointless as all he, she or it wants to do is get a rise out of people here so he, she or it can then go have a little lamo posting fest on one of the other sites with other fellow morons who spam this board to fill their empty little lives.
Oups! Was that out loud?? |

To the OP. Korean girls appeal to us because they rarely dress down, have a somewhat exotic appeal, are easy to impress with basic understanding of Korean culture and language, we can learn Korean/English from each other and it's always useful to have a friend/girlfriend fluent in Korean in case of difficulties. Female NETs have the advantage that we are in the same boat here and can relate about our jobs, there is no language barrier so more meaningful discussion is easier, and if a relationship is worth sticking with there is not the dilemma of being stuck here in Korea teaching ESL while we may prefer to move into a different field of work, which is likely only on the cards elsewhere
One problem is that often female NETs don't even try to keep up with Korean standards of appearance. Jeans and trainers are one thing 'back home' (wherever that is) but it's not going to get a girl noticed when the rest of the women are walking about in a skirt and heels. There's no point denying that. There's no need to wear tacky Chanel bags and earrings, but making a bit of an effort would encourage a guy to introduce you to his friends. |

Obviously true. But to be fair, how many male NETs in this country are well dressed? It's takes two to tango... |

+1000000. Western males in Korea are, on the whole, a slovenly bunch (even more so than your average western female in Korea). |

I agree with this. Younger NETs often still look like students, older guys just look a bit... oddball. But are Korean guys of the same age usually better dressed? If they are (and I don't think they are), the disparity between us and them isn't quite the same as it is between the women. It doesn't seem like foreign men in Korea are forced to compete as much as women are |

Under 30? I would say yes. Over 30? Absolutely not. |

I dont think this is true at all, there is very little individuality in terms of Korean fashion sense and there are so many tragedies such as jeans that dont reach the bottom of the leg, luminous tennis shoes, feminine style socks, partners matching clothes, the michelin style puffer jackets, glasses with no / fake lenses.. i could go on.
It might be quite judgmental but at home clothes say a lot more about who a person is and what they like for both men and women. Its often possible to determine what a persons interests, musical taste and sometimes get a hint into what their personality is like simply by the clothes they wear. Here I dont think that is really possible most of time. |

Wow, I am deeply honored that so many of you are so fascinated by my weight. The quality of your attempted insults is pretty lacking, though. |
You seem to be an outspoken Korea detractor so it's to be expected that others will jump on a personal detail when you volunteer it. Probably just testifies to their own insecurity, though.

I think you're using "lady" in a very loose sense of the word

This is true. Overall I'd say NETs could learn from Koreans' sense of personal tidiness etc, and Koreans could learn foreigners' individualism (in matters of style, or whatever). |

Also, often in the 45-60kg weight range, if you're into petite women (I am). |

Race doesn't mean much.
Trust me a man will like a good looking girl. If she looks good then he's going to go for that.
Hell he'll learn the language to get the girl. If not he'll rely on body language.
And I noticed something when I was in Korea for four years. I got used to the constant Asian black hair, yellow skin. A blonde girl with a good body became exotic to me! |
