This is just a thought -
I was wondering if posters were able to 'like' or 'dislike' posts or replies on Dave's, if it wouldn't cut down the lengths of threads? |

Interesting idea.
Unfortunately, it would probably just increase the length of the threads.
A lot of Dave's posters(cough...cough...not me of course...cough cough) have a pretty twisted sense of what makes a good thread.
With a lot of 'likes'....posters think....hey....better check out why everyone is liking this thread.
With a lot of 'dislikes'...posters think...hey...better check out why everyone is hating on this thread.
Either way...the thread gets longer.
Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...some of the longer threads have some great back and forth in them.
What would be nice, is if they would put a limit on the post within a post within a post within a post within a post within a post within a post...
Let's just say...limit it to a maximum of 2 or 3....after that....just learn to edit.
Hitting the reply button is just too much of a no-brainer temptation for some posters...must learn to edit posts.
That would cut down on the length of more than a few threads. |

It's too bad I couldn't 'like' this comment, because I would! Although in explaining my like of this counter-suggestion, I have proven your point.
Ha! |

I'd like to see an "ignore" option, like the imdb boards have. |

Ahhh Carbon...I see you are not a fan of SE 101
It comes with the basic formula
110 likes
8 dislikes
110 people of good judgement and sound reasoning
8 complete losers.
It kind of reminds me of the fast driving theory.
Anyone who drives faster than me is a maniac.
Anyone who drives slower than me is an idiot.
Now, you will have to excuse me while I finish brushing up on my Social Engineering skills.

Cosmic mate...I think I am getting old 'cause...well, I don't get it anymore. "Like"s...WTF? A bunch of strangers want to "like" each others banal drippings. Pathetic. How about these ADD-addled lightweights learn to write? Articulate why you "like" something? Ugh...even that is rhetorical...I really don't want to read what tiny farts fuel the occasional dim flicker of their bulbs actually.
This is it....a new site for the new generation...
Dim Flicker. Streaming Digital Vomit.
A "social" site where you join and log in with your real name. There are no repercussions from this however; no trackbacks, advertising or cross-referencing, but it must be your real name, verified. This is the only twist in an otherwise anarchy.
No thread titles, no "wall", no continuity. Just 1 endless thread with no direction. It streams in real time, pouring from keyboards all over the world. Thousands of idiots posting their inane drivel one after another after the other...endlessly. Nobody bothers to 'reply' to anyone because probably nobody is reading anyways (it is discouraged). No "like"s or user interaction of any kind. Like a ticker tape....an endless stream of babble flowing by into the binary abyss. Just a place to throw up on the net.
A likely (and actually quite amazing) post: from YouTube comments, under a video of Japanese android technology:
"Get ready to fight f@*!ing robots."
I anticipate great success. |

Grammar question.
Is this...Get ready to fight you f@*!ing robots.
In which case, someone is challenging other posters to a fight.
Or as the original...Get ready to fight f@*!ing robots.
In which case, posters should get ready to fight against robots that are having sex.
Either way, I quite agree...great success is imminent. |

I don't think the 12 year old bulletin board software running this place has the capability. |
