Actually, too much rice gives me terrible indigestion, too. If I just eat it once a day, I'm fine, but my husband is Korean, so it is usually the base of our dinners, too.

Bringing your own food can definitely come off as antisocial, or show an unwillingness to embrace the basics of the culture. But it is possible to compromise. I usually have a half-portion of rice, not a full one. If someone is serving you, you can claim you are dieting.

Different people have different tolerances.

By the way, if you want to learn how to cook Korean food, I recommend checking out maangchi's youtube channel.

The best store, by far, for butter and cheese is Costco.
