Okay, folks. If you're at your first public school in Korea or you've just transferred to another public school, this question's for you!

I'm on my second public school. The question was asked on the third day. My response was, "No. Absolutely not."

By the way, yes, that's intentional in the poll to ask if the proposal was to do this without getting overtime pay.

And the government wonders why foreign teachers aren't sticking around as much as in the past.

It wasn't a regular thing. I would be asked every month or 2 to do a Saturday.

If the school is going to get me 3-4 day weekends if I go to a Saturday the next week, I'll take it. If I can use vacation time to add to this (5-6) then why not?

Because then before you know it, they will change the contract to require Saturdays because "some foreigners just don't care if we bribe them a little."

And we're not talking getting 3-day or 4-day weekends. We're talking of getting all 1-day weekends. Thought that was pretty clear in the first place.

I would pack my stuff up and leave then. China does that crap a lot more than Korea (maybe that's where they are getting the idea), so when I go to sign a contract, I have them put in a clause that says I don't have to work on Saturday or Sunday (if not 2 other consecutive days).

Thought that was pretty clear in the first place (the idea about simply leaving if asked to work Saturdays as a 6th day, come on people stop doing it).

Isn't the bigger question, "how much longer will NET's be employed in the public schools?"

My first contract in Korea (back in 1995) was for 16 hours a week BUT spread over Monday-Saturday, and it sucked. I never felt that I had time off.

Public school contracts already have no Saturdays, Sundays, holidays. The point is the prevalence of public schools that don't want to be bothered with actually following the contracts. And this year, the public schools don't have regular classes on Saturdays--they're simply running their own hagweons on every Saturday now instead of every other Saturday.

Working Saturdays without overtime pay is working for free, people.

The answer is still the same, I wouldn't work them as a 6th day without extra pay. If forced in a corner, I would pack up and leave. That simple.
