I've had a very hard time making girlfriends here in Korea, even when I lived in Seoul. Now that I'm outside of Seoul I can imagine the task is going to become even harder.

I've tried big mixed expat groups but it seems most of the girls there are only interested in the guys.

Any tips about how to make some female friends?

You could try arranging to do things that guys generally aren't interested in, like yoga, sauna or coffee nights. You might still invite the occasional guy if they're likely to come but mostly I think they'd steer clear.

In my town, they had their own things going on, too so it wasn't a case of 'getting rid of the boys' and we pretty much did everything else as a massive group. But it was nice every so often to break away for a bit. Just don't make it a 'thing' about it being lovely special girly time, or it could end up being a bit divisive.

Where do you live? I don't do coffee (allergies), but we could meet up somewhere. Most of my friends had left Korea. I'm one hour northeast from Uijeongbu station.

Take classes. You'll make study buddies.

Getting slightly off topic here, but when I was in grad school, I read something about women tending to prefer men as friends after high school. Anecdotally, it seems true; most of my female friends have more male friends (although I could just know women who gravitate towards guys).

i have this problem but for meeting other like-minded guys foreign or native. the lack of guys here to befriend who know what they are doing regarding their own behavior, women, and life in general are astounding.

i normally just encounter thrifty creepy basement trolls or loud and obnoxious young bucks who enjoy wearing cargo shorts and hitting up foreigner heavy places and acting like fools. luckily i've found one guy who is of like mind and would be thrilled to find a third or fourth to tear up seoul with, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be in the cards for me.

To the OP. If you had trouble getting a gf back home chances are its going to be more of the same here with respect to western women. If youre American, try a non American/Canadian girl who may see you in a different light.
No offense but the issue may be you and what youre doing (or not doing). Plenty of western women open to dating here. The choices may not be the greatest in smaller cities but they are there.
Wishfulthinking, theres a reason I dont have too many foreign male friends. Welcome to Korea, unfortunately the ease of the job and money attracts slackers of all kinds. Some are cool and funny and others are just plain weird. I have a few close friends and thats it.

The OP is female. She wants girlfriends in the sense that I go to the jimjilbang with my girlfriends for a day of pampering.
