I don't know in which forum to post this... but anyway,
My co-teacher is quite sure that I can 'of course' go to a bank in the US and provide my Korean account information and then transfer the funds.
This seems highly unlikely to me, but she may be right.
Who has left Korea and subsequently transferred funds to a foreign bank? How did you go about doing this? I would like to use an internet banking service, but I bank with IBK, and there's no option for this. |

You're asking about a Korean bank to US bank transfer in the states, right?
You can't expect the US bank to initiate the transaction...obviously only the remitting bank will be authorized to do that. There are definitely ways to do that from in the US, but every bank will have its own policy. You should ask IBK here what their policy is, but likely you will have to do the transfer by phone or fax from the US. |

Thanks, that was my assumption, too.
My co-teacher has never lived abroad... yet she is so sure...
IBK has an English-language telephone service, so I'll try using it. |

IBK does have an internet banking service. It's in English too. Just go into your local branch and get it set up. Maybe sure you tell them about wanting to use it for transferring as you need to set that up separately as well.. |

Sorry, what I wrote was ambiguous. I meant, there's no option for international money transfer within IBK's internet banking service.
And their English language telephone extension seems to be only for show :/ |

That's not true. You can certainly do an international transfer from IBK internet banking. Look a little harder. |
