I watched "The Grey" last night and was blown away by how good it was. From the first moments, I knew this was going to be much more than the cliche survival movie I was expecting. It was surprisingly poignant, and dare I say deep. Liam Neeson was nothing short of amazing.
It made me think of "Field of Dreams," a movie I was dragged to, but was totally surprised by, and is now one of my favorite films from the 80's.
Any films totally catch you off guard? |

| galaxy quest. trailers made it look really unfunny but my parents later bought it on vhs and it has become one of my favorite comedies. i imagine the hilarity is further magnified if someone gets all the star trek in-jokes. |

OP I just downloaded The Grey from PB and watched it. I don't know if I want to strangle you for piquing my interest (jk, ha) or the director for smashing to black as Ottway lunges for the wolf.
I didn't like the ending one bit! |

the ending is pretty obvious; think of the poem his father wrote. and btw, there is a final shot at the end of the credits. |

ohh man, Jodorowsky movies.. you really need to be in the right frame of mind, emmm maybe being on LSD might add more to the experience because being straight you might just sit there going.. WTF! |

The most recent Muppet Movie was well done and is very highly rated by critics.
I'm becoming a big Jason Segel fan and think he'll have a long career in Hollywood. |

yea, he's a doozy awright, "Holy Mountain" quite a spectacle as well...about the same time an Italian filmmaker named Pasolini was throwing his two cents in as well. In particular he criticized capitalism/consumerism and sided with the student protest movement...ended being bludgeoned to death (allegedly by some 'crazy' youth...later the accused claimed he had been coerced into making a false confession) |

yes I saw holy mountain, actually only last year.
regarding pasolini, WOW, the 120 Days of Sodom
that was full on, remember watching that 20 years ago.
hardcore. I heard that movie sent him over the edge during production, made him crazy. |

Well, yes, and speaking of Neeson, Taken surprised me, and I think many others as well, because not many people thought of Neeson as an action-movie guy until then.
It's the same thing I felt about Matt Damon, but the "Bourne" movies were really well done.
Anyone ever catch "Sexy Beast" from 2000? Sir Ben Kingsley plays about the best thug you will ever see! |
