Cheongju is a great little (by Korean standards, only 700'000 people) city with a decent foreigner community and just about as many western amenities as you will find anywhere in Korea short of Seoul. I also don't feel like I have to take a shower after visiting Cheongju for a few hours (as opposed to Seoul.)
A while back, I was heading out to Cheongju with an now-ex of mine, and she told me there was a subway in Cheongju. I told her that no way was there a subway in Cheongju, it's too small. She told me she was sure she had seen one, and I told her she must be mistaking the place for another city, that I had been there several times and seen no such thing. On and on it went until we were nearly yelling at each other on the bus. Then the frustrated silence and not talking to each other. Finally we tentatively started talking to each other again and found out that she was talking about the sandwich restaurant and I was talking about underground trains...
Cheongju does in fact have three Subways. |
