Hello everyone, so I'm going to be going through a hagwon my first year in S Korea and I was wondering... since the contracts are for a year long, how could I stay in S Korea if I wanted to switch to a public school for the following Fall? For example, my contract for the hagwon would end June 2013, and public schools wouldn't hire till late Aug.. so would I have to return to the states in the meantime? I'm trying to find a way that would make the easiest transition, without having to move everything back across the Pacific. I often see posts where people switch from public to private, but never the other way around. Any advice? Thanks in advance! Smile

You're getting way too far ahead of yourself, you shouldn't even be thinking about that since you haven't even started your first contract (or even entered the country yet?).

Plenty of people have done that. If what you proposed does occur, then I'd just use the gap time traveling if I didn't want to go back home. I figure after a year at a hagwon, you'll be itching to get the **** out of here for a while anyway. And maybe forever.

Hey thanks for replying. Yeah I figured I was thinking too ahead... it was just to get a look at my options if I were to stay another year, ya know? At any rate, the traveling thing doesn't sound half bad. Though I've never taught in one before, I'm pretty sure it won't be terrible, as according to previous teachers at mine have all been happy. I guess it depends on the hagwon. I don't think they can be as bad as the kids I taught English to in France...

End of job, switch to a D10, wait for the new job to start, switch back to E2.
D10 (looking for work) is a bridge visa (good for up to 6 months).

You will need to deal with finding a place to stay for a couple of months... or just head for the beach and chill till the new job starts.
