Hey cj1976, you had to take a pay cut to move from public school to Uni? I was under the impression that public schools paid very low. Even if you had an B. Ed. degree. Is there something I'm missing? I hope so as I'd love to teach public, but can't afford to do it for peanuts.

I've been offered 2 jobs at Uni's near Daegu and turned them down because I would take a 500,000+ pay cut. (My wife and I are trying to pay pack student loans)

I have a B.Ed. and next year I will be at the top of the pay chart. Plus I get 150,000 for 3 schools and I pay my own rent so I get the 400,000 for housing.

From my understanding unless you have an MA in TESOL or PhD most Uni jobs are 2.2(max in my area), with 300,000 housing and maybe a million for travel money.

It truly depends on how you look at the jobs. Do you limit yourself to the number on your paycheck, regardless of whatever benefits or hours you have to work to get that pay?

I mean 2.4 for 30 hours per week and 2.4 for 12 hours per week is a big damn difference in pay. Factor in the typically better vacation time, the hours you have to yourself in a typical week....

Also, unless your contract has a clause prohibiting working at a second location, with the lower hours you have at the University, you can easily find a part time job at another location and supplement your income while staying under the weekly hours of a PS or Hakwon job (for the most part).

I'm trying to find a p/t job to fit around my uni schedule, but not having much luck. I've looked on worknplay and on here, but there are mostly really crappy gigs that pay 35k per hour. What other sites are good for p/t work?

Thanks

You are complaining about jobs that pay 35k/hour? What are you expecting?
