|
|
Just checked the new March Madness Live (formerly March Madness on Demand) website. Apparently now the streams are only available for people in the US, us international viewers are f'ed. Also its not free this year, they are charging like $5.00 for, not a big deal given what the NFL charges
Anybody got any recs for a VPN service?
Swear US sports/media access now is going back to the 90s when nothing was streamed. Sites are blocking int IP addresses, pirate streams are drying up because of fears of being shut down, and Korean TV used to show most major US sporting events are now no longer covered by Korean channels (I've seen the NFL, NBA, MLB, hockey and not only the Final 4 but even regular season college hoops games) |

5 bucks you say?
Worth every won.
Is free better? Of course, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. |

OP said int'l sites are blocked, I'm guessing even if you pay.
This still baffles me. I would gladly pay 5 dollars or more for access. I'd happily pay netflix, hulu, other sites as well. I realize we're not a large market, us expats, but why these websites go out of their way to block access is beyond me. |

Korea doesn't want to allocate any broadband where they don't get to advertise or a percentage of subscriptions. Its not the website's doing.
If you can't understand that, then look at the whole You Tube deal that was made. |

The sites are blocked, not on Korea's end, but on the end of the US companies. It IS the website's doing.
The only feasbile reason I can think of as to why they ban access outside the US is because of bandwidth. Its not because there isn't enough bandwidth. Its because the companies don't want to pay extra to handle the traffic. |

Couple of reasons I've been told by people in the business why int IP addresses are blocked for some streams and bandwidth isnt one of them
1) Lack of revenue from international listeners for advertisers. IE, nobody from overseas will buy company X's products who advertise on station X.
2) Royalties from overseas, big question on how to pay artists etc based on overseas listeners.
3) The ability to sell overseas rights. KBS wont pay as much for sport X if its available online |

Watching the games right now, ultrasurf gets around it no problem.

If you end up having to pay, I recommend Strong VPN. I use it for Netflix all of the time. Gives me a California IP. Doesn't work for torrents, though, and they will threaten to cut you off within a day after you try. Otherwise, it's pretty cheap and works well. I get the cheapest option. |

Doesn't CBS allow you to stream it from their site? Do we have to use a proxy for that here? I'm not too involved, given that I'm here and not there, but I'm in two fantasy brackets amongst my friends, and I would like to watch some of the games if I can. |
