|
|
I know a lot of people on here love KEB, but I've been consistently underwhelmed by their English online banking. Every time I use it I find myself wondering why something that should be so simple is turned into something that is complicated and confusing. It also hates my computer for some reason (even if I use Internet Explorer) and so trying to do a bank transfer becomes an exercise in restraining myself from putting my fist through my screen. It's impossible for me to fathom how anyone can use their online banking and then think that it's well-designed. How many different codes, passwords and security software programs do we really need? As I live in a small city, I went with KEB thinking it would make banking a lot easier for me - I was mistaken.
Therefore, I'm interested in trying a different bank, and so I'd like to know if any of you can recommend another bank that has a simple, straightforward English online banking site. All I really need to do is check my account for withdrawals and balances, and make the odd domestic transfer.
Thanks for any suggestions |

If you need an English site, then you're stuck with KEB. The others aren't any better, but some are definitely worse.
If you know some Korean, there ARE better banks out there (Woori for one), but in general, KEB is the one to stick with.
My personal experience is that KEB English service is passable, and they offer it at every bank. However, I used Nonghyup for a while and founud their English service to be excellent or non existent - really hit or miss. Now I'm using Woori, and the staff speaks zero English, but the guard at the branch I use speaks English quite well and is always willing to help and chat it up.
Long story short, for all around general convienience, stick with KEB. If you think their online banking sucks, you won't be impressed by any of the others. If you think their in store English sucks, you won't be impressed by any other bank UNLESS you ONLY use the branch you find with great service. Know some/learn some Korean, and Woori is, hands down, the best bank.
Just my two cents. |

You're stuck with KEB for now. The reason internet banking is so complicated is because the government is still stuck in the stone ages. They refuse to change the online banking security regulations to allow for anything besides Explorer+ActiveX. I have a Mac, so I just had to install a KEB app.
Maybe Hana works better but I'm sure they don't have an English website. |

FYI, all the banks have similar process. Lets say you want to send money to an account online. You have to:
Enter your account pin
Enter the amount you want to send
The description you want in the bankbook
Enter bank of recipient
Recipient's name
Description in recipient's bank book
Take our your security card
enter front 2 numbers
enter back 2 numbers
popup comes up for digital certificate
enter your digital certificate password.
That is the exact same process for KEB and for KB Bank and IBK. So I'm sure its the same with all the others. YOu can shorten the process by saving the accoutn info of the recipient if you send them money regularly.
If you want to do away with the security card and the digital certificate, forget abotu it. IT doesn't matter wich bank you switch to, you will have to go through the same process. |

I have the exact same issue that I can't access our bank's online services on my Mac. It actually redirects me to the Mobile app page since it thinks my Macbook is an iPhone(?), but I can't get the ActiveX and even emailed the outsourced IT company and they confirmed that. |

KB has been pretty good for me. It's annoying to setup like most of the banks, but once I did that, it was extremely simple to use their English online banking. |

I don't understand how you can be unsatisfied with KEB. Given the number of native English speakers compared to the Korean population, KEB's English site is more than what should be expected. They have someone who can help you in English at every bank. What more can you ask for? I have made countless domestic and international transfers and I have never had a problem.
Even for people with macs it is easy once you get set up properly. Sounds like the issue your computer or your impatience.
"All I really need to do is check my account for withdrawals and balances, and make the odd domestic transfer. "
Once you sign in, it takes about 5 seconds to check your withdrawals and balance. To make a domestic transfer it takes less than 5 minutes. If it takes you longer the problem is on your end, not the bank's website. |

FYI you don't need to use the certificate to log in and check your balance - it's possible to just type in your username and password. You can't make transfers without the certificate and number-card though.
If you have a smartphone, get the KEB app. It takes a minute to set up but once you're done it's much faster than using the website for simple tasks as you don't need to constantly update the active X software. |
