If you come over on a regular tourist visa is it possible to change it to a regular E2 teaching visa when you find an employer? This would be from South Africa
Thanks |

If you've had a previous E2 visa, you would have to do a visa run to Japan. |

A visa trip is not that hard with Japan so close. Little pricey but it can be kept under 400,000won if you be smart. You can even have the school pay. |

A visa run to Japan may NOT be an option for everyone (like someone from S.Africa).
OP: you need to obtain your first visa in your home country. A consular interview MAY (not IS) be required for a first E2. Visa runs to adjacent countries are NOT an affordable option for someone from S.Africa (visa issues with the 3rd country in most cases).

As Ttompatz said, a Visa run to Japan is not possible for someone travelling on a S.African passport. However, it possible to do a visa run to Hong Kong. However, that is a little bit more expensive, the travelling time is a bit longer, and the consulate doesn't have as much experience doing this as the Japanese one, so may take a bit longer there too. |

Ok I am wrong. I learn something everyday. Why is it hard for South Africans? I know that they do not get visa free exemption travel on their passports. But I thought they could get a tourist visa for Korea and start on one for Japan so when they do a visa trip they can do it?
Timing issues? |
