I've never been a big Apple guy, but I picked up a used iPod from a coworker a few years back--not one of the really old ones, but one of the thinner ones, with 32gb. It's been a great little player, but at this point it's all cracked and beaten up, and more importantly, it doesn't hold a charge for very long.

I'm looking for a replacement, and I'd really like something that I can watch video on, like an iPod touch. The actual brand is not important. I'd also like something with more storage--the 32gb doesn't quite fit all my music, and I have to take even more off to make room for videos.

It seems like people just use smartphones for these functions nowadays, but I'm not ready to jump on that bandwagon, with the cheapest plans including data being at least $50/month, usually much more, while you can get a talk/text only plan for peanuts. (I'm talking about the US; I'll be leaving Korea soon.) It also doesn't seem like it's easy to use a smartphone without a data plan on most carriers.

So, what's the best answer for this technological need? I need something that plays music and video, with a bigger screen than an old iPod, a good amount of storage, and if it could be also be a phone that I could use in the US without a data plan (preferably on AT&T, so I could use my parents' and brother's family plan), that would be ideal. It would be more convenient to not have to have a phone and a separate MP3 player, but it's not worth an extra $50 a month to me.

The COWON has some good reviews. It's supposed to have very good sound. It's 32GB, but you can add memory to it if you need to.
