This could only happen in Korea I am an Australian man and I teach in a girls' middle school. Yesterday afternoon I went to the male teachers toilet. While I was there a student [ a girl ] came out of one of the cubicles carrying a mop. She had obviously been cleaning the cubicle.
Can you imagine, she had been sent to clean the toilet, it was the mens toilet, there was no warning sign on the door and she was by herself.
Its disconcerting enough to see the old ajumas cleaning the mens public toilets but this was a teen age girl. The mind boggles !!!!!!!!!!! |

| Don't students usually clean the schools in Korea? If there are no male students, a female student would have to clean the men's room. |

I think you missed the main point of my post ........ this was a teenage girl, unaccompanied in a male toilet.
I would not want to impose my culture on another race but I feel this was a bit risky.
What do other readers think ? |

| Sorry, I don't see the big deal. Teenage girls are not likely to get attacked by male teachers in public schools. Just wait for her to finish when you see her. What teenager is going to take the time to put out warning signs for a quick 5 minute mop? |

I've been here for over 3 years and every time I say 'nothing surprises me' something does surprise me.
I am sort of accustomed to Korean lack of inhibitions regarding toilets but, try as I may, I just can't accept a lone teenage girl in a male toilet. Perhaps that's because I have two daughters myself. |

I also teach at a girls middle school. I haven't had any problems at all. The girls clean the washrooms at a set schedule everyday. I know that every day after 6th period, the girls are in the washrooms cleaning, so I stay out.
Isn't it the same at your school? |

Fubar, you raise a very interesting point. I was not aware of a schedule for cleaning the toilets. I will make a point of asking if this is the case in my school.
My present school is usually very good about keeping me informed, unlike my previous school which told me nothing. However, it looks like my present contact teacher ( and I ) may have overlooked this matter. |
