Im looking for information on korean jazz standards. I think what I have in mind is the music that cab drivers listen to. Some of it is cheesy but I've definitely heard some tunes with nice melodies/changes.
Can anyone recommend any famous tunes/singers from that era? I'm not even sure what era that is. 60's? 70's? Lead sheets are probably a long shot so I'll happily do the transcribing myself.
I'm looking to gig at hotels/bars playing piano. I figure that knowing some korean standards would please the older korean patrons. Also, can anyone give any advice on procuring a gig like this? Is it possible for foreigners? I'm not looking to get paid. I'm a self-taught beginner jazz pianist and I need some time playing in front of people. |

Not really sure what you're after:
Kim YunA was selling aircon with Benny Goodman's Sing, sing, sing, so at least that's known to the public. Is that what you want? |

A spot you should most definitely check out would be 천년동안도 Chunnyundongando at 대학로 which is the area around Hyehwa station.
the website is http://www.chunnyun.com/
They still have the first generation Korean Jazz artists playing every day.
Plus, I see some caucasian session players in some of the bands every now and then so I'm sure that as long as you're qualified enough you won't have much of a problem. |
