Hi
Just bought a new TV - I thought I would be able to watch movies through USB but it looks like I can't ( I have an A/S port - anyone know what that is?)
anyway - can anyone recommend a media player that I can use to watch my downloaded movies on my TV ? cheers |

Most new (flat) TVs have USB (may have codec issues), vga, HDMI and analogue ports and many of the newer ones also have LAN ports as well.
What does your computer have for video outputs other than VGA?
A quick solution would be to run a VGA cable from the computer to the TV and either a double male cable from the speaker plug out on your computer to the sound input on your TV or simply plug external speakers into your computer.

A/S is a service port. There are a ton of media players. some have torrent apps on board. I have this, http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/products/HDM6500.aspx but there are latter models. |

since you don't seem to be much of a techie i'd suggest for ease of use and power look into getting one of the recently refreshed apple tv units.
if you want to take time to go deep into home media players i'd suggest building a server but that's expensive, time consuming, and you have to devote a lot of effort to make things perfect.
a service port is a port used for diagnostics and for firmware upgrades. you will never need to personally use it, and the chances of a technician having to use it is slim as well. |

Thats no longer necessary. I have a WD HDTV live and it does everything a home media server does, but only cost me $100.
TIVX is a good all in one solution. WD HDTV Live is another. AppleTV is another way to go. Seagate GoFlex TV is another.
There are a lot of solutions nowadays. Building a home media server, nowadays, is not practical unless you plan on streaming media to multiple sources. Just going to 1 TV, get a media streamer. |

cheers for the suggestions - a lot to look into
I had a WD HDTV back in England - I guess I am looking for something similar at a decent price over here......... - just to stay connected to the TV and play movies through |
