I've heard that at one point you could find shortening (Crisco) in itaewon. Anyone seen it there recently, if so, can you point me to exactly where you saw it? |

I think I've seen it at High Street Market, but no guarantees. |

hmmm... well you can get shortening from G-market, however it seems you can only buy it in bulk (like 4.5kg at a time) I'm guessing you don't really need nor want that much.
If you do decide to order from G-market be careful; most of the sellers have a variety of options on the order page and these range from butter to margerine to shortening to lard and to things that I'm unsure of what they are. So make sure you're selecting the shortening which is 쇼트닝 in Korean. |

Yeah, ezshopkorea has it right now, but his price is really high. I know he jacks up his costco prices a lot, so I assume he's jacking up his Non-costco prices too, but I don't know where he gets that stuff.
If I can, I'd like to grab it off the shelf somewhere, because I expect it to be 1-2000 won less than what he's charging.

Yeah, I'd previously gotten a lot of baking stuff off gmarket, and looked for shortening there. 4.5 KG is way too big. You can freeze it, but I don't have that much freezer space left.
The shortening I did see on there wasn't exactly shortening either. it was 1/2 shortening 1/2 butter.
At least with the crisco stuff I Can be sure I'm getting the low or non-trans fat kind. |

Yeah, I currently have about 75% of a 4.5 box (got it for a summer camp cooking class) sitting in my fridge, and have absolutely no idea about the fat content since my Korean is insufficient to read the info on the box. I've use it sparingly to make flour tortillas, but it really is just wasting space. |

It's Konglish if you can read that much. It starts off with 트랜스 I believe and you should see a percentage or a g weight after it |

Try Bangsan Market, there are several shops for baking supplies there. I bought a large box of shortening there a while back. Just ask for shortning in Konglish, it's cheap.
Dunno why you want to use that stuff, it gives me indigestion. |

Thanks, still pretty high. but more reasonable at least, about 1,500 less than ezshop and I don't have to pay 4,000 shipping. I may have to try and get over there this weekend. |
