You might as well do it then unless u r planning to go home soon. If the school gets fined then u r sure to get shafted as well.

How many threads do we need on this topic? Here's three others:

That last one is a good read.

All of these threads are saying you can get a copy of your CBC from immigration for 300 won.

I'm about there. MOE has no business asking for something immigration already has. And even less business asking for it if you haven't left the country for three months.

I wouldn't be shocked, today at work we hand to turn in our ARC cards with some form for Interpol or something. Evidently it allows employers etc access to your Criminal background history while you're here in Korea. Seems like they are getting more strict.

Hokie21: Do you perhaps work for a public school and this form was for a local background check? I heard that PS teachers had to get a local check from last year and this sounds like it could be that.

It would just be the height of crazyness for us to keep jumping through all these hoops, spending loads and getting stressed whilst getting new checks for different departments of the same government. Only for them to turn around and say... wait sign this form and we will check your record for you!

Touche!

I work public school. I sent for my documents from Canada last year. Immigration didn't want them. I only had to give them to my POE. This year, I won't have to give it to them again because of last year. But, I did have to have a Korean criminal check. That was new. Never had to jump through so many hoops. I have nothing to hide. But, I worry if a Korean ever tried to start something with me and the cops have the power to end my job because of this. While, I haven't had problems, sometimes, you hear of things.

I mean some foreigners get baited or accused in some situations and the cops take the Koreans side. It is getting better. Had a buddy get harrassed. Though nothing happened in the end, but the local cops tried to call his school to get him in trouble. The school did stand by him. But, if he were fingerprinted or something, this new Korean criminal record check could end things quickly.

I don't think the police keep files of people with no record.

Broonie: No, actually I work at a Hagwon. On top of the criminal history check, some teachers who had been here for over a year and didn't get their teeth checked had to go in today and get another full medical check, blood, urine, teeth xray's etc...

Yeah, I have been told that I need to get another medical as part of the MOE requirements. Also a new apostilled crc and apostilled copy of my degree.

It's fair enough if I need to get these things, I've been in Korea long enough to accept that the rules changes consistently. However if what you say is true, and the MOE or whoever can do international background checks on us by getting us to sign a form, then why the heck are we running around getting friends and family back home to help us get the physical documents?!?
Anybody have any more information on this? I live in hope that one day this will all be simple!

It all depends on which immigration office you use. Some will allow the photocopy while others demand the original.

The actual penalty? Who knows? There are sure to be a lot of people that can't get this done quickly.

NOPE>

Immigration requires an ORIGINAL police check with the apostille.
Immigration requires a certified true copy of the degree with an apostille.
You cannot get a visa without them.

For those on an E2:
The MOE WILL accept K-immigration issued copies of said documents.
The MOE will NOT accept home made copies of said documents.
It does NOT affect your visa.

For those NOT on an E2:
The MOE requires originals of said documents.

I just signed my new contract for another year in public school. My POE told me immigration didn't need the medical check, apostiled degree, criminal check, etc. They told me they wanted them only. But, I haven't been to immigration yet. If they tell me to give them original copies, I'll go back to my POE and they can bang each other over the head. I'll let you know next month when I get around to going to immi. But, last year, immi didn't want anything. I gave my documents to the POE last autumn.
