Hey guys,

I know Seoul is easily the most wired place in the world, but is wifi freely accessible in most connected places there (e.g coffee shops, streets)? I heard that either there's a fee invovled for wanting to connect to wifi wherever you go or a Korean ID number is required for locked connections.

Seoul isn't a great place for free WiFi, though it is accessible in some places. Most residents have smartphones these days, and Korean smartphones still allow free tethering...so I can lend WiFi to my other devices through my Galaxy S.

LG recently began a supposedly free wifi service called U+. They cover a lot of Seoul and simply require that you watch an advertisement every so often as you use the service. You do have to register, however. When I tried to register, it said that I would have to pay a certain amount to set up after which time it would be free.

So, apparently there is free internet available, but you have to pay for it.
I ended up just getting a Wifi Egg.

I pay KT about 8000 a month to use there "ollehWifi" network. It's on all the subways, but the speed isn't too blazing. It's alright for downloaded emails and news articles.
