I can never sleep in the western style beds anymore. I prefer sleeping on the floor. |

I really much prefer a bed, but can't justify the waste of space in the small apartment spaces here. Sleeping on the floor isn't bad, but I sleep a lot better in a nice bed. |

Huh, never tried it. Why would you voluntarily sleep on the floor? This is kind of like saying, I can't stand to use a trash can anymore, I much prefer to throw my garbage on the ground. Or, I can't stand those 'Western-style' toilets, I much prefer to squat.

Sheesh, my apartment is pretty much a shoebox, but there is plenty of space for a double bed. How can anything bigger than a goshiwon not have room enough for at least a single bed? |

Are there any studies that claim sleeping on the floor is better for your back? Two years of sleeping on the floor in the Army has made my back worse. My back much prefers sleeping on a good bed.

I have actually read that squatting is healthier though. I can't stand doing it though. |

Sleeping on the floor doesn't automatically mean hard and uncomfortable. Futons can be quite comfortable, I used to sleep on one when I lived in Japan. Not really sure I've seen many futons in Korea though, but they are really good for small apartments since you can roll them up and store them away during the day. Not to mention it will keep you really warm in the winter. |

Same. Sleeping on the floor makes my back hurt more. |

I generally prefer sleeping on a bed, but sleeping on the ondol can be nice on cold days simply because of the heat. |

I like sleeping on the floor as long as I have some sort of padding/bedding. I've slept in a few jimjilbangs while traveling around Korea and the hard floor leaves me with little sleep and sore hips. |

Terrible analogies and, although a bed "fits", I prefer more open space. For example, I don't like beds to be in the corner of a room because it looks cramped and dormish (read 'poor'). Although I prefer a bed given adequate space, I prefer a nice set of Korean floor bedding at my current residence in Seoul. |

Sleeping on the floor sucked in the States, and it still sucks now.
Bed>>>>>>>>>>>>>>floor. End of story. |

I've slept on a mat (yo) on the floor for the last 2.5 years in Korea, and for quite some time before coming to Korea. I've always had trouble sleeping in beds, except the awesome extra comfy hotel ones. Not sure why.
Though, to be honest, the bed my first hagwon provided me with wasn't much softer than the floor, anyway. If I need extra padding on the bed, I just add another mat. I'm glad it works for us - we simply don't have space in our apartment for a bed. |
