ttom is dead on here.

The requirements he listed are the correct ones.

Korean language ability is a requirement.

So a sponsor is not now required? Ttom didn't mention a sponsor.

I wonder what level of Korean is required? No mention of this in previous posts related to this visa. Will it be simple questions, or difficult ones?

And how will one's positive benefit to Korean society be demonstrated? I was under the impression that 4 sheets of written A4 were required, again based on previous information.

If you know of a website listing the exact requirements, then please share. My searches constantly bring me back to Welshguy's information. Dialling 1345 is an exercise in futility when trying to get information on this.

Level of Korean gets you POINTS as the visa being discussed is awared based on a set number of points. The higher the level, the more points.

Othwerwise, dethe provided you with great information.

Good luck.

Disappointing to read that someone as apparently helpful and organized as ttompatz was not able to get this visa. I hope you're able to find a way towards a good Visa for you soon..

Dethe - Totally understand if you prefer not to answer but as the sponsor appears to be a key factor, two questions.

1. Was your sponsor a member of government? A business leader?

2. I wonder how developed my relationship with the sponsor ought to be. This is really subjective so the only way to get some guidelines is through anecdotal evidence - sharing your story and others. Is something as small as 5 or 6 meetings sufficient? Do they need to be almost like family? Perhaps an acquaintance on a soccer / squash team is sufficient.

Thanks to everyone for the updated information!

Also - Let's not confuse this visa with any points visa. There are definitely 2 visas, one that is based on points, and another one that is an MOJ decision alone.

I've known my sponsor for about 5 years. I meet him by teaching his son. He is a government worker. It is a friendship type thing and that is important as they are the ones who will be responsible for you while you are in Korea. They are basicly acting life your wife or your school. So if not close they will not really want to take that risk. Build a strong bond. If that can be done in 5 or 6 meetings then that is fine.

It would be hard to believe someone who has been here over 5 years required to get the visa would not have any long term friendships with Koreans. That said it is not a dig at those who haven't.

Best advice find a Korean friend who trust you and knows the person you are and they will do it. If they are worried explain that you have been here ...... years and you haven't been in trouble yet why would you change all the sudden that will help lessen their fears.
