I like sleeping on the floor sometimes~ but my hagwons have always provided a bed, so it's only been a couple of times going to a traditional house or a friend's place...

My bed also doubles as seating space, so I can't say I'd be happy with just a mat bed ;.;

I sleep on the floor. I find it warmer and more convenient than using a bed. I am comfortable and I like the extra space.

I've been sleeping on the floor here for 10+ years. It suits my body & I sleep well. I have a nice job-provided bed I've never used.

Terrible analogies and, although a bed "fits", I prefer more open space. For example, I don't like beds to be in the corner of a room because it looks cramped and dormish (read 'poor'). Although I prefer a bed given adequate space, I prefer a nice set of Korean floor bedding at my current residence in Seoul.

Good point. It would be next to impossible to have friends over for food and drinks if you live in a one room apartment with a bed. With no furniture except a table, it is however quite easy to fit in a lot of people.

floor = better back

Doesn't seem to hold true for me.

I seem to recall a recent study that showed no benefit, even some drawbacks from sleeping on hard surfaces.

Sleeping on the floor sucked in the States, and it still sucks now.

Bed>>>>>>>>>>>>>>floor. End of story.

Why would you sleep on the floor in the States?

I've been both a bed sleeper and a floor sleeper. I have always found that sleeping on a floor made my back and hips sore at first, but after a while I'd get used to it and not notice. So with regards to "extracurricular activities", it's the same: if I'm sore from sleeping on the floor, it makes it more difficult to do things like grade essays or create lesson plans because the soreness affects my concentration and overall comfort. One time, for example, I had a hike planned that I canceled because I'd just been sleeping on the floor and just didn't feel like doing that much walking. On the other hand, after I'm used to sleeping on the floor, I don't have trouble doing things like that at all.

We slept on the floor when we lived in Korea.

Now in Canada, we sleep on a low bed.

Either way works for me.
