This would be the phone you couldn't unlock in Korea because it wasn't paid for and now that you have left with it you are trying to sell it back to someone in Korea who then also gets stuck with your bill so they can unlock it or can't use it because it can't be unlocked in America?

So can unlocking the phone be done by someone else other than the phone company tec guy in America?

I dont think they would unlock it as I havent paid for all of it.

Im leaving Korea with an unpaid iphone. Skipping out on the phone bill essentially.

I will need to get it unlocked to use it in in other parts of the world.

Thus Im curious as to if I can get it done through someone else outside of Korea.

As im sure my korean phone company will not do it with the phone not being paid for.

@ttompatz

Never tried to unlock it in Korea as I thought I could do that in the U.S.

How would someone get stuck with my bill? This is NOT a transfer contract offer....

I think you are confusing my SIM card / service / contract with the actual phone itself.

As long as someone has THEIR OWN SK sim card all they do is pop it into the Iphone.

@quanglam

It is not unlocked.

Which means it must be used with the korean phone carrier of SK.

You can use the phone in Korea, just not outside of Korea. Well until they create an unlock for the phone which apple developers are working on.

A stolen phone can be blocked from accessing a network by its IMEI number. Simply changing the SIM card won't work.

Not sure if the phone would be considered stolen. I dont think they "brand" the phone stolen and block the phone from someone simply stop paying their bill before contract ends.

OK. So you left Korea without settling up on the bill?

Do have a friend in Korea that you could send your phone to and test your theory out?

Not that id trust enough.

I know this works in the U.S, dont see why it wouldnt work in Korea.

There is also a possibility for a SK customer to get it unlocked by SK I believe.

you can sugar coat it anyway you want. you didn't simply stop paying your bill, you did that AND you stole the phone. your weak and convoluted mind is putting up some serious denial roadblocks in the journey towards admitting the truth.

in short: the phone is stolen and can and will be blocked based off it's imei number. korea isn't lenient with stolen phones. don't buy this phone.

losers like you are the reason that it will be hard again in the future to get phones, just like it was 5 years ago. This is around the time all the people who used the new rules to get iphones/androids are a year and a bit in and starting to leave and skip out on the phone payments... why did you not just transfer the contract - a lot of people advertise here and on craigs and so on for that as they want to be released from their contracts but they know they shouldn't keep the phone and the new person gets a smartphone much cheaper than they otherwise would have. It works well for both parties. These people are doign the right thing. YOU CHOSE TO STEAL.

You signed a contract for 2 years, just suck it up or transfer it - you are basically a thief in my eyes.

I hope karma smacks you back.

I think YOU are confusing the U.S phone system with the Korean one.

You do realize that your phone's serial number is tied to your account right?

If someone brings the phone in to have it registered at a KT shop (which is the company you essentially stole it from) It will come back as registered to you with your account on suspension for non-payment. Not necessarily stolen but worthless and useless to anyone but you, until you settle up with KT and either pay the phone off or transfer the contract (which is impossible due to you being in the U.S and without an ARC).

Buyer beware on this one.

*Edit*

No, the phone cannot be used on SK as it hasn't been unlocked from KT.
