|
|
Im looking at doing a camp position this summer then transfering my visa to a new school. I know its possible to transfer your E2 visa to another school in country, but can you transfer a C4-E2, or do you have to do a visa run?
Any thoughts? |

Typically, in the past it required a visa run with all new documentation for the new E2...
... however ...
with the changes made to allow E2s to obtain a D10 between jobs it may well be possible to switch from C4 to d10 then E2 or (unknown here) switch from C4 to E2 without the D10 in between provided all the relevant documents are on file at Kimmi.

Teacher: Hi, I am on a C4 visa right now and a school wants to hire me on an E2 visa
Immigration: Oooh, that's gonna be a bit tough, you see we don't do that.
T: So, I have to leave Korea and come back?
I: Yes, or you could get a D10.
T: A D10?
I: Yes, it's a visa for those looking for a job.
T: But I already found a job.
I: Great, then you can pretend to look for another job while on a D10 and then we will change that one to an E2. Understand?
T: Umm, yea, I guess. But wouldn't that be more paperwork? Why don't we just go from C4 to E2, seeing that I already have an employer interested in hiring me?
I: I wish we could do that, but this is Korea, and we just don't do things that way.
Gotta love Korea |

Suprisingly enough i knew where that conversation was going as soon as i started reading it,
o korea, the land that logic forgot.
Havent heard of a D10 before, so im assuming its just a visa you get at the imm office to change you from tourist to looking for work so you dont have to go to japan on a visa run when you find a job?
I guess is just bring a spare apostilled criminal record check and signed degree to transfer the c4-d10-e2 then?
Thanks for the info! |

One last quick question.
Is it possibe to arrive ona tourist visa, change to a D10 then find a job and transfer to a E2 while in country? Or do you arrange the D10 out of country with the embassy at home and fly to Korea on that?
Thanks again for any info you might have on this, much appreciated! |

The full use of the D10 has yet to be tested. Right now, it is up to the immigration officer to decide when and how to apply it. A bit like a magical wild card. If a teacher is already in Korea, not on a tourist visa, then it is to everyone's benefit to go the D10 route instead of processing things over again. That's what I outlined above but when you already have an employer the need for the D10 is pointless. If you come on a tourist visa, then you don't need the D10 and probably wouldn't be given it since you already get about 3 months to find a job. |

This is bit of a repeat of my previous reply. The tourist visa gives you time to find a job. There is no point in a D10. I don't even think you can work on a D10. It's just a "cast" to wear until you don't need it anymore.
If you never played in a game, hence gotten an E2 before, then you would never have worn the cast. |
