Just wanted to see how many of you Hagwon teachers out there get this day off. I remember getting this day off in the past, but my school is staying open on this day (even though the three other hagwons on our street will all be closed). Any of you out there facing the same problem? |

It's not an official holiday, so why would a private business close?
Good luck with the 'well others are closed' line to your boss.....
It dosen't matter what the other one's choose to do, your boss is fully within his rights to open and expect you to work..... |

wow...nice response. I never said he wasn't within his rights. I simply asked who else wasn't getting this day off. If he wasnt within in his rights...i wouldn't even be posting on here. I would simply just not go to work. Go have a drink and calm down. |

If you're teaching kids, what possible excuse would your hagwon have for closing on a voting day.
If anything, it should stay open just to ensure that the kids' parents get a chance to vote. |

Doesn't really answer his question, does it? He's not complaining about it, or seeking justification, just curious to know how many others are in the same boat as him.
For someone who doesn't like others judging their eating habits, you sure don't mind being all judgmental in other contexts. |

We might be getting a half day. This was decided this afternoon, of course. :\ Anyway, my kid gets the whole day off so at least I get to spend some time with him! |

April 11th is a good day for an election in South Korea. It's like the Peppero version of April Fools' Day. |

My school is shut, but the korean teachers and the director decided it in a meeting and I was only informed by the other "english" teacher by accident, if she hadn't been making conversation about what she planned to do next wednesday I wouldn't have known about it. |

Are other places (restaurants, stores etc) ever closed on election day? Or just public/government places? |

I found out yesterday that I don't have work on Wednesday. I'd just assumed that I had to go in. I was telling my kids "See you on Wednesday for fun day" because Wednesday is "Spot the difference" day with my middle schoolers, and my boss said that it's a holiday, and I'm off. I gave her a high five, and said that I could spend the day doing my homework, as I'd had a large dinner party on Sunday for Passover, with her included, and could really use that day for my TESOL work. I'm really looking forward to having free time again, after this course. |

I get the day off, but I work 20 weekdays/month every month so it's really just a matter of the school picking one or two days off. |
