My contract is up in may and we've always been on rocky footing with my hogwon owner. My recruiter promised some things that weren't fulfilled. My boss is one of the most irrational people I've ever met in my life. They want to rehire me but some shit has gone down with a fellow coteacher (I think they're going to try and deny him severance pay and he was yelled at for an hour for doing the same exact things I do) and basically things are going badly.
How long would it take to find another job already living here, and would I have to go through the entire process again of degree copies apostiliies and so on?
Are there people who have laid back jobs that are enjoyable? I begin to think they're myths but then I see someone make a post about how they wouldn't accept 5-6 teaching hours a day and I want to ditch my 8 a day bullshit. I know my hogwon is not good, it's not terrible but it's hectic, all the korean teachers are exhausted, the owner is heartless and lies like a perfect sociopath.
All in all I'm really tired of this country but maybe it's just been my one experience. Financial reasons make me want to stay on a little longer. |

Most P.S jobs tend to be laid back. The average P.S gives you 22 classes per week which equates to 4-5 classes a day. If you go to a rural area it is very possible you may end up with less classes. |

You need to look more into this. How are these classes scheduled? NOT the hours, the classes. How many classes in one block or shift? My rule of thumb is I teach 3 or 4 classes in a shift or block. The school has a choice to extend my availability by adding a break in between 2 of the classes in a block or shift. This means a morning shift and afternoon shift with two 1 hour breaks means I am sitting around for 10 hours at most not teaching.
If you are teaching 4 classes in the morning and 4 classes in the afternoon, this is normal. It is no bologna ship. How many days are you doing this? If you are teaching 8 classes five days a week at only a 2.0-2.2 million won salary, then it is bologna ship.
Figure out your exact schedule, teaching and office time. Compare it to your salary. More information is needed. |

Well monday I arrive at 9:30....
10-10:30
1035-11:05
11:10-11:40
11:45-12:15
lunch
I watch the kids during gym from 12:40-1:00
I have a half hour break
1:30-2:05
2:15-2:40
Then the afterschool kids come in and I work from 3:00-6:00 pretty much uninterrupted. At 6 I have to take out trash and so on. Leave by 6:30
That's my worst day. tuesday, wednesday, and Friday I have two breaks (30 min) each a day.
We also have to write weekly logs every other week. Do monthly tests for after school classes and write the after school kids monthly reports. Now they're adding monthly reports to the younger kids.
The other days I get two breaks and on tuesday/ thursday I have a much more relaxing day. I only teach after school from 3-4. Trash at 5 and leave by 5:30 since I stay later then my contract specifies on mwf.
Thursday is my easiest day where I get a block of breaks right away. |

Looks like you took a babysitter job, not a teaching one. Change to a teaching one, get rid of the office and custodial tasks. You will enjoy your time in Korea after that. |

Yep~ been there, done that... except with no breaks at all, and no five-minutes between classes. This must be kindie, right? Definitely look for older students and classes with books rather than coloring pages... Kindie is not for everyone, me included ^.^ |

Yep, after 3 are the elementary kids. I hadn't actually considered the work situation would be that different just because it's a kindgergarden. Now I'm feeling foolish lol. |
