Compare Risotto to white rice? Who....wha...
Risotto is way better tasting!
HFX may not realize that it takes quite a while for the average meat eater (me for example, many months) to finally get to the point where they prefer the veggies over the fleshies.
If you're off the meat for awhile and you taste fruits, it's like a whole new world. (it works for me, maybe not you). |
I'm shitty at detecting sarcasm, but I think we agree that risotto kicks ass, no?
>_>;
Risotto is awesome if you use brown rice instead of white rice. Bibimbap also tastes a lot more hardy when you substitute white rice for brown rice |

French food uses a ton of green beans for salads and the like (dependent on region). As for specific dishes, I'm guessing you're not overly familiar with French food if you've never heard of cassoulet.
As for the Italian use of beans, this page seems to sum it up rather well:
http://www.lifeinitaly.com/food/beans.asp.
Anyway, spending most of my time in the Northeast, pretty much every restaurant I go to has a few bean based dishes on the menu. I'm guessing this beans as poor people food thing is coming from either the South or the Midwest |
wasn't actually thinking of green beans, just the little black, brown and white varieties. it's interesting tho, that thin-sliced green beans are referred to as French style, as opposed to the big clunky thick ones, huh? but then in China, they have really long and flavorful green beans that are great.
anyway, I'm hungry, going to go cook dinner now |

I honestly have my doubts as to white rice being less healthy than brown rice. yes, it's probably got more carbs, but then, it's also sort of heavier in texture and flavor, so usually one eats less of it than white, so in the end it's probably the same.

You should do some research. The process of milling rice reduces nutrients and minerals like fiber, protein and iron. You get more nutritional value from eating the same amount of brown rice than white rice. I don't think white rice is really all that bad if you're getting those nutrients else where.

also Americans tend to think beans are poor people's fare so most won't eat them as much either, despite the health aspect of beans and legumes.
bottom line, class issues are widespread, not just in Korea. |
Really? I swear I saw more beans during meals in the States than in Korea. Nobody was saying class issues only exist in the US. |
Ahem... definitely worth a read if you're truly interested in the nutritional value of brown rice vs white rice...

I read a pro-brown rice article that cites the same doctor posted in your link. There's a plethora of info out there that claims brown rice is better. But you could find studies that support any side of any issue.
I'm of the opinion that vegetables should be your main source of carbs anyway. |
