Hello

Does Korean national health insurance cover one when traveling outside of Korea on vacation? I'm guessing not, but I'd like to check before purchasing a separate short-term policy.

KEB gives you a basic travel insurance coverage if you exchange at least 300 USD or equivalent. The more you exchange ($500, $1,000) the better the coverage is.
Its just basic but still better than nothing and if you need to exchange money anyways than why not get it.

It barely covers you when you're in Korea.

At Incheon Airport, there is Meritz and Samsung travel insurance desks. Both are comparable and very reasonable for short-term insurance.

Takes a few minutes to sign up. The desks are located in the main check-in terminal before going through security and immigration.

Travel insurance almost never covers you if going to your home country.

Just an FYI.

Many PT insurance people at airports do not even understand this, and will still sell you a policy.
