We got to do something about these blacks coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops, Klansman Bubba said. They ought to go. Im going to say that right now. But we need white businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.
"I'm not ever going to condemn a group of people," Bubba told reporters. "My history is complete. It's an excellent history with the black community."
Yes, what he said was ludicrous, and it goes on the long list of things he's said and done that should keep him out of office. But then again, this is Marion Barry... |

Marion Barry's Turn Toward Bigotry
Quote: |
Barry is either (1.) Trying to get some attention or (2.) Manifesting the unreconstructed id of his long-suffering Ward.
In 1979, Marion Barry wasn't going to become mayor through demagoguery and black populism. But in 2012, he can surely reign as king of Ward 8 with that mix. It's sad to see. Very George Wallace-like. |

Hate-crime charges for saying something incredibly idiotic? Umm, can you say overboard?
And like northway said, this is Marion Barry, most famous for being busted by the FBI while using a crack pipe and uttering the words, "That bitch set me up!"
What's sad is he has no competition in Ward 8 and won't face any signifiant repercussions. Unfortunately a lot of his electorate doesn't have any issues with what he said. Fortunately that electorate is no longer city wide. |

Looks like he's getting pretty soundly criticized by Asians, Hispanics, and other African Americans. Good.
However, though it's definitely unfair that he's only talking about Asian owned businesses doing this, I think he does have a some valid points about dilapidated buildings with riot-proof barriers, and urging to hire within the community. Community leaders should work to improving community image and denizen/business relations. Unfortunately, this clown decided to inappropriately single out Asians in the process. |

Asian invasion. Why bomb it when you can just move in and take over? |

Leaders such as Barry? Yeah, he's obviously quite skilled at doing that. |

And I'm not really seeing the double standard here. Barry IS being criticized from all quarters. I haven't seen anyone in the mainstream media saying "Right on, Barry, you tell 'em!!" |

The problem is that the mainstream media doesn't wan't to report or comment on black on white or black on asian crime/bigoted comments- it does not fit their world view. They go wild on hoaxes like Duke University, Jenna 6, or Sharpton's hoaxes like Freddy's Fashion mart (people actually were killed) or the Tawana Brawley hoax. How about the recent hammer attack on a white, the Mississipi killing by 3 blacks of a white student, the Witchita murders, http://cnsnews.com/news/article/media-ignore-kansas-interracial-mass-murder, tourists in Florida, Chritian/Newsom murders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murders_of_Channon_Christian_and_Christopher_Newsom
IMHO: Early Americans should have picked their own damned cotton.
Check the FBI stats which are available online. Black on white crime is off the charts. |

If a white politician had said "We've got to do something about all these blacks coming in..." wouldn't he have been rightfully drummed out of office by his peers? Wouldn't that politician face such severe backlash that the only choice left would be to resign?
The idea that an American politician can promote the prosperity of one race at the expense of another (even rhetorically) SHOULD be so morally reprehensible as to end his or her career immediately. And yet in this case it's treated as "Barry being Barry", as if to say "some Blacks are just like that and we shouldn't judge". To me, treating the situation that way is just as racially offensive as Barry's remarks. |
