To all brits married since 2011...

has anyone used the 'letter' from the embassy stating that they accept the marriage as valid for immigration purposes (f2/f6)?

i deposited my korean certificate with the GRO in the UK and just found out today that it takes 18 months to get a copy back.

the embassy in city hall told me that a letter would be ok but i simply don't trust immigration - they scratched their heads when we called today.

anyone been through this process recently?

18 months? Are you serious? Where did you get that information? I had a letter from the British embassy that they told me would work but actually Korean immigration wouldnt accept it. They want the marriage certificate issued from the GRO.

yep. i spent all last night trying to get details from the GRO and direct.gov.uk

when i tried to apply online to get my copy, the site stated that any event registered within the last 6 months couldn't get a copy and that for marriages it is 18 months.

emailed the GRO last night and waiting for their response today.

wife called immigration this morning, after the usual passing us along to another person, they said they just needed proof that the uk accepts our marriage as legit. she asked about the letter from immigration and the officer had no idea what she wa talking about.

just got back from the embassy an hour or so ago and asked about getting my records from the GRO. they confirmed you need to wait for 18 months. i then asked about the letter they provide and she said it would be 83,000.

i mentioned that immigration may not accept it and she said 'don't worry, we've done this many times'

I have that 83,000won letter and its all but useless to us because we have to apply for our visa from outside of Korea. Did you make sure that the Brit embassy knew you are holding a tourist visa? I forwarded that letter to Korean consulates in Japan and Hongkong and none would accept it. That was about 2 months ago.

Then i think the letter will probably work for you since its dealing with immigration in Korea.

Let us know what the GRO say!
