Are people meant to live together long term? I'd reckon, as some comedian said once I believe, people should just stay in separate houses and visit each other sometimes.

As much as I do like cats, I think I'd still prefer to live with the right woman than any number of cats. Okay, sharing my life with a smart caring woman AND one or two cats would definitely be even better!

Cats are rather easy to come by, but women... not so easy... or cheap.

Women who don't' want to have kids are definitely out there. I had the "i don't want kids" conversation with my guy 3 times to make sure that he wouldn't end up resenting me years later. We are now married and enjoying a kid free life. The funny thing is, he says I have a "magic" with kids...but I decided against them by the time I was 17. I love them, as long as I can give them back! Wink

World population is 7 billion and still most people can't think of anything else to do with their lives than replicate. And castigate those who don't think the same way. Rolling Eyes

My family gave up last century; even so, it had only been a few times, to which I replied, 'What's the point? Besides, I don't want kids.'

I'm a happy singlet. If I ever do get married, he would have to be my best friend. I don't believe in all the dating mind games.

Pets are not children. They do not grow up and achieve great things. They do not grow up and help people and make their lives better.

But I would never give someone grief for abstaining from marriage. What's the point of that?

My parents don't even approach the subject but my sister has started recently. Not so much marriage but the fact that I avoid serious relationships. That I am "wasting my life" by remaining single in my 30's.

I'm convinced this is because their marriage is falling apart and they're miserable and they're jealous of our happy, uncommitted singlehood. I'm philosophically opposed to the institution of marriage so I'll be living with a big white eskimo dog.

People aren't meant to make commitments to live with someone forever.

I agree. Check this out:

Quote:
The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (VHEMT[A]) is an environmental movement that calls for all people to abstain from reproduction to cause the gradual voluntary extinction of humankind. VHEMT supports human extinction primarily because, in the group's view, it would prevent environmental degradation. The group states that a decrease in the human population would prevent a significant amount of man-made human suffering. The extinctions of non-human species and the scarcity of resources required by humans are frequently cited by the group as evidence of the harm caused by human overpopulation.

Extinction's a little...uh....extreme, n'est-ce pas? I do think, however, that the world's population should go down to about 4 billion.
