When employers ask for hobbies and things like that would it be ok to tell them that " I am an active member of Dave's ESL Discussion Forum"?
If they probe deeper about it would it be appropriate to say things like "I have helped people live a better life and have contributed to their improvement as an English teacher"?
How does all this sound? |

LAME
Stick to usual MEN things: fishing, playing hoops, going to cinema and watching cover-compensating, testosterone pumping action flicks. |

You might as well say "I enjoy having repetitive petty arguments with anonymous strangers."
The only person on here who could put Dave's as a reference is Ttompatz. |

I would stick to non-technology things... they want to make sure you're a well-balanced person (or see how willing you'll be to go on teacher retreats and field trips, lol) |

I've never seen a post from you before, so not sure how 'helpful' you've been. Surely you must have a better hobby than trolling on a message board? |

I think it's fine to mention that you help other teachers on EFL forums, but I don't think there's need to reference Dave's specifically, nor do I think it falls under the category of hobbies. Employers aren't going to be impressed that you're affiliated with this site anyway.

You make it sound as if I'd do it any other way. |

isitts,
Why wouldn't employers be impressed?
It is a social group here is it not? |

I think it would be far more helpful if you mentioned that you enjoy running without a shirt. |

Sure. Sounds like a good idea. Might I suggest that you also mention that you're fluent in Korean, enjoy volunteering at the labor board and pension office, and you spend your free time studying Korean contract law and the Korean Labor Standards. They'll love you. Honestly.
